Best scope for lever action 22?

I'm going to be picking up a second Marlin 39A for the grandkids to shoot.
I'm thinking about putting a scope on this one.
What would be a good scope for plinking with the kids?
Under $250. Maybe 3x9 ? Not too big and bulky for the kids

I'll admit, they look much better without a scope.
With a scope, i kinda prefer the older looking Weaver Classics

Just put a burris fastfire3 on my wifes brand new browning pump rifle. It is now a hoot to shoot without taking away from the look of a non scoped lever rifle.

My 39M wears a Leupold VX1 2-7X Rimfire. In your budget with decent rings.

Good classic non-euro looks. Not overpowering.

Is Marlin 39A a take down model ? Does it have the 3/8" rail on top of the receive ? If both yes than do you have to remove the scope when you clean the rifle and re-zero after every time cleaning the rifle.
The reason I ask is because I had Henry lever H001, the 3/8" rail is on top of the receiver, every time I clean the rifle I have to re-zero the scope, not a lot just couple clicks.
I do not know much about the scope , but the smallest scope I had is UTG Bug Buster

Frankly, on my plinking and small game .22s, I just put on an inexpensive Simmons or Bushnell 3-9 centerfire scope. The parallax setting at 100 yards for a centerfire scope versus 50 yards for a rimfire scope doesn't make much difference to me for shooting cans or rabbits. My benchrest guns get expensive/better scopes like a Weaver T-36.

Scopes are much easier for kids to shoot than iron or even peep sights and that is good if you want them to feel successful and maintain interest with getting discouraged.

FWIW, the UTG BugBuster comes with QD rings and AO. I have one on my Ruger 10/22 Takedown. Scope stays on the receiver when the rifle is disassembled and stored in its bag. After re-assembly, it doesn't require re-zeroing. I've also experimented with removing/re-installing the scope using the QD rings. It's about 50/50 on needing to tweak the zero (not make a major adjustment) after that kind of evolution. Also had one on my JM stamped Marlin 1894CS. The optic was fine I but replaced it with something else to get better eye relief.

I have a Bushnell trs 25 on my Henry .22 lever action. I like it a little more than my Simmons 3x9 on my 10/22. Most shots don’t require magnification (especially for young eyes) and it’s easy to see the red dot. No need to adjust the scope and LOP for proper eye relief.

Another vote for the Leupold 2-7x28 (gloss) w/ Warne Maxima (gloss) rings.
That's what my 39A Golden wears. I also wanted to put a gloss scope on that purdy wood & steel, they're getting hard to find.

A lever action isn't a precision rifle nor a long range rifle. A simple red dot makes a lever quick and handy for small game. The Fastfire III suggestion is also a good choice.
