10/22 budget build

So I order a bunch of the small parts and a bx trigger. Need to order a scope and barrel. First time building one of these so my question is what's a good bang for the buck barrel? Is fluted really lighter? Also 16.5 vs 18 length. Also looking at the vortex crossfire scope I'm a scope newborn but I see there is a voles and a dead hold. Not really competition shooting just plinking around, and bored building AR's so I figure why not.

The factory barrel weighs a ****ton for no reason. Almost any aftermarket barrel will be lighter in weight. I personally went with the tactical solutions threaded barrel. Super light weight and deadly accurate. Also, upgrading the extractor is a must! Heres a pic of my competition 22

I am a fan of Kidd barrels and his parts in general. As far as 16.5" vs 18", there is no real world difference between them worth talking about. Chose one that is visually more appealing to you. On Kidd site you can compare weights between different barrels.

Fluted it lighter, by a little, 6.4 oz on an 18" stainless (bull)

Their 17" stainless heavy taper has a great accuracy reputation, and weighs 2.15 lb., which is 5.6 oz lighter than a fluted 16.5" bull. If I were building another sporter 10/22 plinker, this is the one I'd get, since many can shoot MOA @ 100 with target (not match) ammo, with is pretty good for a $130 barrel.

Green Mountain barrels is a great option for barrels and with very good pricing and accuracy for plinking around. An unfluted, 0.920 bull barrel weighs a lot.
16" vs 18" look at BBT. If you decide to build a bullpup 10/22 like the High Tower Armory 90/22, then you'll need a 18" barrel to stay legal.

Scopes for the budget minded - Bushnell or Vortex or Mueller. I don't like Simmons or BSA - cheap and poor materials.
