Are all factory Ruger 10/22 the same?

Fellow Calgunners, I have a 10/22 that I bought in 1978, a changed the barrel a long time ago and lost the original bbl. Will a newer bbl from eBay or Gunbroker fit this older 10/22? Thanks

Yes. it should fit fine. If you are looking for a new OEM, Brownells has them for around 45.00.

I'd say that the overall quality of your 1978 10/22 is much better than what is sold today, although the modern replacement parts would still be compatible.

It has become well known that some Ruger receivers had the hole for the barrel tenon incorrectly drilled on the production line. Barrel will aim to the left before you do.

You could even put a target/bull barrel on it, the receiver is the same. But then you'd need a new stock too. I converted a basic wood/blue carbine model (that I bought for $129 just to add a second rifle to a DROS fee) then got a target stock/SS barrel combo sale from Midway for $99. Well OK those prices were 12 years ago. And I sold the carbine stock and barrel on eBay.

My 10/22 was from the 70s as well. Aluminum alloy trigger guard and barrel band and plastic butt plate. Barrel is fine.

I did replace the mag plunger with a Kidd plunger and higher tension spring which secures the larger BX25 mags in place much better, greatly improving their reliability. Also got a Kidd extractor and Kidd mag release lever.

Compliments my 70s 18 round Marlin 60 and CZ Farmer bolt action .22lr rifles.

Put a Kidd barrel in that thing. The barrell will cost more than what you paid for but lighter weight and shooting one hole groups at 50 yards is worth it.

Seems like there's a factory barrel or 2 floating around the CG market place, now and again, for dirt. Or used to be. PAX

This thread has inspired me. I am sort of bored with this 1967 vintage 10/22 and have been wanting to trick it out. It would certainly improve the look and value to dump the wood and refit it with something tactical. Maybe a bipod and RDS to round it out.

Is that really how the stocks came back then, or was this a special model? I like it!
Life was simpler, and more honest, when revolvers and lever actions were the rule.

Thank you. As Dan mentioned, it is the "fingergroove stock" from many moons ago. It does not seem to have any plastic parts except the stock cap and butt plate.

I guess I could safely dispose of the stock for you. We wouldn't want it to add to the landfill. I'll take care of figuring out a way to reuse the wood.

Deadpan humor just doesn't translate well on message boards. Anyone who would part out an early mint fingergroove 10/22 is not smart enough to have owned it in the first place.

                            Sorry gents.
