    Ruger American Rimfire Compact

Anyone have first hand experience with one of these? They're on sale at Turners for what looks to be a good price ($239). Especially curious to see how it compares to a CZ 455 scout.

Any insight you might have would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

The ruger precision rimfire just came out. Look into that before you buy

I had the Ruger American Rimfire Predator which is essentially the same things sans sights and with a threaded barrel. I sold it and bought a CZ 512 Carbine in .22 WMR and will never look back.

The Ruger is feature rich and smooths out some if you work the bolt handle. Mine was picky about the automatch ammo I was running through it and wouldn't group. Stock was literally tupperware, and the overall fit and finish of the gun is what you would expect from Ruger (which in my experience isn't much). If you have a 10/22 and want an accompanying bolt action that shares the same magazine then perhaps this is your ticket. If you find ammo it likes, it is not a bad gun, but doesn't feel like something you would be able to pass on to your kids.

I think you would be happier with the build quality, accuracy, ammo selection, and overall execution of the CZ 455. I feel that it is a better conceived and put together gun. You will pay a bit more for it, but it will be worth it in the long run.

Thanks for the input! I have a cz 452 trainer and really like it, but it's too big for the kids right now. That's why i was looking for something smaller.

I do like that you can use the 10/22 mags interchangeably, as i already have a 10/22; maybe i'll get the 455 for the kids and look into the precision for me

Got a RUGER RAR Compact .22 LR a while back. 18" Bbl. synthetic. Put TechSights Aperture sights on it.

So it's like the one in this vid, that they call a std.

Heck of a rifle for the money.

They make a very nice wood stocked 22" as well.

I went to Turner's yesterday to check it out but there was no display model. The rifles are in the warehouse and will they will have one next week. OP, you got me to thinking about it. That rear peep sight has sparked my interest and the price can't be beat.
