scope mounting on a 22

I'm going to pick up an older Stevens 22 mag bolt action "plinker" I just bought and is in jail..it has a dove tail cut into the top of the receiver for mounting a scope...I have only messed with large center fire scope mounting and never on a dovetail cut into the receiver...as I read the ads I see 11 mm and 3/8 ads for dovetail mounts..can some one please give me some idea of what I might be looking for and how to measure or are they the same? Just confused here in the sea of tranquility..also for 50 yard paper plinking is something like a Simmons or BSA scope ok? I shoot Leupolds on all my bigger rifles and they are great but this is just a knock about toy and nothing more..

This is also a Nikon but 4-12 power if you want higher magnification.

IIRC US standard is 3/8 cut at 45 degree angle and 11mm is European standard cut at 60 degree angle. Your Stevens is most likely 3/8" since it was made in the USA.

I recommend a Simmons .22 Magnum 3X9 scope. They generally sell for about $50 at Turners or on line. I haven't shot my .22 mag plinker farther than 150 yards but the Simmons scope was great out to that distance.

I second this recommendation. Nikon is good value for the money.
If you're on a tight budget, for half the price, the BSA sweet 22 3-9x is also another good value for the performance.

I have these scope rings so that I can still use the iron sights. But, honestly I never use them, so in the future, I'll probably get some lower rings.

The mounting clamp on the Warne rings flips two ways, so you can use those rings on an 11mm and 3/8.
