I have not attempted this myself, but I found a similar thread at Rimfirecentral. If you haven't come across it yet, that forum is really good for anything 10/22.
I have a sporter 10/22 with the pre-installed swivels. I was looking to install some Uncle mikes QD variety. It should be doable, but I don't want to strip out the wood. I can unscrew the factory ones from the wood, but my only concern is whether the new studs will have enough bite in the...

I have not removed (cut or pried) the attached sling loops, but I believe they are not the standard size as used by Uncle Mike's and Groove Tech. Has anyone attempted to change out the sling studs? Perhaps drilled out the Ruger studs to accept the standard size QD Sling Swivels? I might just leave it factory, and attach a leather sling, but I'd really like the QD option. Thanks in advance for any feedback.
I did it using the push button style QD mounts, so that I could quickly take off my sling when shooting off of a rest and rear bag, and not have anything protruding to interfere with the bags. The Ruger mounts unscrew, like any other sling studs. If you go this route, be careful because the factory mounts may not be perfectly centered, and if you're picky like me, you want you end result to be dead centered, even though nobody will ever see it:

Hello. I've spent a few years over on the 10/22 forum, but my 2nd 10/22 project looks like it fits into the SuperStock class. I've had a lot of fun with my other 10/22 going through a couple of bull barrels and two stocks over the years, and a heck of a lot of DIY mods and tinkering, but this...

I'm using a 1" leather sling on mine:

P.S. Sadly mine's not walnut. Looks OK compared to some other birch stocks I've seen though.

I bought my new Deluxe in 1991. A friend, now gone, made a leather sling for it that I've used all these years with the original rings.

All my other rifles have detachable rings, just never changed the 10/22.

Bipods just don't look right on a sporter stock anyway. Plus, usually better to use the type of stud that uses a countersunk nut to increase the strength.
