    .22lr rifle shot interval?

I know it is required to take a break between shots and groups for large caliber (30-06, 308, etc.) bolt action rifle mainly for concern of accuracy and barrel life. But how about my beloved .22lr rifle? I have a cz455 lux with regular barrel (not varmint). I regular shot abt 200-250 rounds in less than 1hr and do not take a break unless loading the bullets. I can feel a bit warm of my barrel after tens of shots but not unacceptable hot. What do you guys usually do with your .22? Is it ok to continuously shot like this or any break I need to take between certain number of shots?

    Thanks!

When barrels get hot, they can shift their point of impact and excessive wear can occur. I have shot a lot of .22 ammo in a short time, and the barrel never gets hot enough to cause a shift in the point of impact. In answering your question, I don't believe you can get a .22 barrel hot enough to cause a shift in point of impact, nor hot enough to cause excessive wear

especially a bolt rifle with 5 or 10 round mags

      50 round mags with a crank-fire, maybe

Varies by gun and barrel. Your results will vary. Go to the range and shoot some trials.

CZ455 16" barrel little heavier than yours...ive shot 600 rounds through it pretty much as fast as i could feed it with 3 10 round mags and 1 25 round mag.

also shot 400 through a kidd 10/22 heavy barrel as fast as i could with 3 10s and a 15...never seen any difference from start to finish in either.

There are a few factors beside barrel heat to consider when shooting groups with 22LR. Unless you're shooting with flags, sometimes it's best to get all of your shots off in succession before the wind conditions shift, then take a break between groups. At my range, at least, weather conditions have a bigger impact on groups sizes than a little barrel heat.

If you're testing different brands, a thorough barrel cleaning between brands is a must.
