It's hard to go wrong with any Anschutz. They don't make any bad products.

      Shot 300 21x on a 30 shot mini-palma f-class practice this morning

      mp64 - t36 - center-x ammo
      How much better could a 54 do? ( ok, 9 x's )

Last time I shot was 50 yards. Up 50 clicks and first shot at 100 was a low 10.
I guess I need to remember 52 clicks! t36 tracks that well consistently

I have a model 64 1517. I love the rifle and would buy another anshutz. I would say I have over 10k rounds through it. It is dinged up and scratched unlike most anshutz owners I use mine for hunting small varmints otherwise it would be a range queen.
I personally use a 2.5x10 scope but I don't like kicking u my heartbeat in the reticle. For your intended use it sounds like a good combo but magnification may be too high.
My Marlin 17 shoots tighter groups but not enough for me to want to carry it for days. I would like to pick up a 54 some day. Either way great rifles.

I just purchased an Anschutz 1903 Target. It is at the LSG store waiting for me. I am "cooling off".
I am 60 years old. I have wanted one of these for a long time. I don't think I am good enough to know the difference between a 54 and my 64. Besides I would spend another grand or 2 for a 54 anyway.
I agree, Anschutz doesn't make a bad product.
Rimfire central has some targets from these rifles with good ammo. Robin Hood would be jealous.

The best Rimfire Benchrest gunsmith in the world uses a T36 on all of his personal guns and for testing customers guns.
If you plan on punching those holes from the bench the T36 is good to go.

              Anschutz 1903 Target

I just bought my first Anschutz. The Original test target was in the box. Here it is. 10 shots at 50 meters. Is this normal? If so why would i want a 54?

Yep. That's what my sporter looks like once it's warmed up!

...maybe not THAT good, but dang close!

Same reason one would get the 64. Because it's THERE!
You will soon forget the money. Not likely to forget the Anschutz.

plus a group created from the second 10 shots

exact mp64 and t36 combo the op is considering

                    smallest ring is .356"
