    Optic for new M&P 15-22

I know there are a number of threads about this subject, but they are from 2012 and earlier. I would think with technology, research and marketing being what it is, many, if not all, have been replaced with better and in some instances, less expensive, but better quality ones than the older ones.

I won't be using my rifle for any varmint hunting or competition, just target shooting. I bought it about a month and a half ago at Turners when they had that great sale on them for $130 off I have yet to shoot it and will do so at the Zombie Shoot. I'm not sure if I'll have an optic by then as I have ammo and some paper targets to purchase. Since I'll have my son and 4 of my grandsons with me, I need a lot of both.

I would appreciate any input from those who have this rifle and an optic that has worked out for them or they can recommend. Some of the members in one old thread recommended getting a red dot rather than a scope, but I'm open to suggestions. I don't need a $300+ optic, but I don't want some crappy $20 either. Thanks in advance.

I've a Ulta Dot Pan A/V on mine. About $225. It sits fairly high which works well on that gun. Has 4 reticles that makes it versatile, small dot for target shooting a larger circle dot that I like for steel and action shooting. The reticle is very sharp and clear. A lot of lower priced dots have flare and the dot looks like a comet.

If the primary purpose is Zombie shoots and you want a scope, find a variable 1-4 or 6X. Well over $300 with a mount.

I've got a aimpoint look-a-like from primary arms.

Edit: I tried to copy a similar set-up as my shooting carbine. It looks like this:

retired, your options are limitless. Even the airsoft grade ACOG knock offs are capable of holding zero for 12g slugs. It just depends on if you want magnification or not.

I went with the Bushnell rimfire 3.5-10x36 for my Sig 556 using UTG medium rings. It's got parallax adjustment and BDC turrets and reticle designed for the .22LR. It's about $70 and very high quality for what it is. Sight in for 50 yards as advised then adjust the turrets and parallax accordingly for additional distance. I used the 50, 75, 100, 125 turret for quick adjustment. You can also get the 17HMR version.

Don't forget the cheapy $17 CVLife Harris knock off. It's beefy for what it is. I tested it on my centerfire AR's and no problems at all.

I've got the sub-$100 Bushnell AR Optics rimfire on my 15-22 and the Harris knockoff mentioned above. Decent combo for a plinker.

Vortex SPARC AR on sale or Holosun 503 series with circle dot would be what I'd put on a AR22 if it needed one.

Or if it was something I had sitting on a shelf I'd probably use the Weaver Tactical 1-4x with a duplex reticle. Not sure what's up with that scope but it is clear as hell for the price and FFP... which doesn't make much sense for what it is (duplex reticle). Might end up on AR22 or Sig522.

Have run it stock irons, carry handle irons, folding irons, a budget scope and the red dot.

                          All fun.

I've had the TRS-25 on an AR-22 and MKII... they do work

My major issue with the TRS-25 is the little rectangular tab inside the body on the bottom right that blocks your viewing area. It makes lower 1/3 co-witness via high mount kind of funky. It's not so bad with absolute co-witness via mid mount, but it's there.

I think the Holosun optics are pretty awesome, but it's hard to beat the price of the TRS-25 especially when we're considering rimfire applications.
