Yeah, post a question at RFC, and every response is going to be partial to Kidd.

Ruger 10/22 Barrel Decision?

Until we can get several samples of each barrel into a barrel fixture, best is subjective. Kidd manufactures a great barrel from LW blanks, as does Volquartsen. Kidd barrels are priced lower, which probably explains the draw.Comment

RFC people would tell you if their barrel is bad. Kidd makes the grade because they shoot very well. So do Fedderson and VQ. Benchmark and Douglas cost so much they get little play.
With what a 10/22 eats in ammo over a year or two, the initial cost of the barrel is lost so I suggest getting a KIDD, Fedderson or VQ. Look at Whistle Pig and many others but your chances of a really good one are excellent with the big three. 3 years from now and bundles spent on ammo, most people would be glad they got the real accurate barrel at the inception.Life is hard. Don't forget that Kidd is much easier to say, although I see some people spelling it wrong. Volquartsen is harder to spell and say. Lilja also makes great barrels, and perhaps arguably better, but most people spell it wrong, and only Swedish people know how to pronounce it.

I wanted to install a bull barrel on mine as well. But I'm having trouble thinking about what stock I need to use. I saw some composite ones that were molded for the bull barrel. Any ideas?sigpic

I ordered the Kidd fluted light weight barrel. I'll post some photos once it's installed and tested.Comment

I went with the Hogue overmolded stock, but the Magpull stock looks really nice.Comment

I got the barrel yesterday. Its the Kidd light weigh fluted stainless steel/aluminum and its threaded on the end. It was pretty easy to install. No having to put it in the freezer like Volquartsen barrels and the receiver in the oven.
I test fired it today with standard high velocity, stingers and subsonic ammo. It cycled them all without any jams. I'll try and get to a range this week to shoot for groups at 50 yards.
I'm really happy with the barrel so far. It is very well built and looks great. It is a little lighter than the original barrel and the gun feels very balanced.
Maybe I'll pull the Leupold Mark 4 4.5-14x50 off a rifle I never shoot anymore and mount it on this thing. Overkill?

Not much difference in a 16 vs 18 inch barrel in a 22lr. Bit quieter maybe but the velocity is very close albeit a tad slower in the 18.
Put the Lupy scope on that thing you wont regret it!Comment

Actually, a slight friction fitment is exactly what you want, genius.
2nd video...
Wait, did Tony Kidd put his receiver in the oven?!Comment
