Just get your kids a regular Cricket rifle, or similar child's rifle, (if your children even need that first stepping stone) because your child will grow out of it so fast, having so much fun with it that he'll be ready for his next rifle probably a Ruger 1022 before you need a bipod or scope ,etc. ...

Both of my kids already have full size rifles (10/22 dealer sample stainless and marlin 989 m2) but these are still much too large for them. So I'm on the hunt for something smaller.

          That looks cool.

And a 10-3/8" minimum length of pull should be short enough for the youngest/smallest of shooters who are still mature enough to shoot a firearm.

Thing I don't like about Crickett rifles is that the bolt needs to be cocked separately, after working the bolt to eject the spent round and chamber a fresh one.

But maybe that's intentional, splits the required force to extract and cock into two separate steps, for the little ones.

The thing I don't like about the Crickett is that once chambered, you have to shoot it. Wish it had an option to unlock the action.

Other than that it's surprisingly accurate and has been effective for the 8-12 year olds who've brought them to Appleseed.

Accurate, as in, you might seriously consider one as a survival rifle. It'll do the job and stay under three pounds.

I'm slightly partial to the Rascal myself.

Just get a CZ Scout. It won't cost but a little more and you can get a bigger stock as the child grows into it. If you get the 455 version you can change the barrel later on and have a full sized rifle. It comes with a Single shot adapter, but can be shot with a five or ten round mag.
