It's not a bad price, but not great either. They are being sold in the marketplace for more.

The market will determine the price. If it doesn't sell, then the price is too high.

You could do better with patience, but you have to be in the Marketplace or the LGS at the right time.

Ask them to drop it to 450 for the rust and take it home now,

I bet the price is not too high. Consider a arguably similar quality Buckmark is around the same price new nowadays. Can't really judge based on the old MSRP, plus off-roster. Tiny bit of surface rust on contact area under barrel? CLP and steel wool it away. I'd buy it. Sure try and talk them down, but you really think you'll find another?

The Buckmark I like is $490. That MKII is a shooter.

Use this to find how old the Ruger Mark-2 is

If you already had Buckmark then you can get the Ruger Mark-2 to add on to your collection otherwise get the brand new Buckmark because you did not know how that particular the Ruger on you LGS how is shoot, how good is the barrel........
I had both R. Mark-2 and Buckmark , for my old eyes and shaking shooting hand , let say the Ruger Mark-2 is 100%, then the Buckmark is around 95%-100%.
Because Ruger is not on the Roster so I can "brag" that I had "The Ruger" but my Buckmark see more range time than my Ruger.
For the good used R. Mark-2 the price $300 in free states but in CA you have to pay for: Non-Roster, "seem to be" a collector item, a hype..... For a working horse get the Buckmark, if you have some buck to spend then get the R. Mark-4.
Oh boy, I just open a box of 22LR ammo, I will get a lot of bombardier from Ruger Mark-2 lovers.
                  My two cents.

Is that like can of worms, hahah. No bombardiers from me. I love my MarkII Target, but Buckmarks are good too and they are on-roster. I kind of understood what you were saying

That's okay price for a stainless. A little high for blued.

MK2 in stainless with a BBL for that price should go quick if it's just small surface rust.

Last year I readily paid $600 for a pristine stainless Mk II Competition slab-side. I think your price is fair. These are really fun guns, and just not very available in California anymore.
