Wow, Check the Price on the Marlin 39A Now!

I cruised over to the "Marlin" website and found this:

The legendary 39A is only available now from their custom shop as a special order rifle, at a starting price of $3,195.00!

Shazam, I'm sure glad I bought mine back in 1977 for $127.00.

Well. you would want more if your screws were clocked.

I sold one in the 80s for $200 with a lot nicer wood than their custom shop shows. I paid $150 a couple months before I sold it so I did OK.

And that doesn't even get you an octagon barrel. I guess I'll hang on to this one I paid $95 for in 1975. The Williams rear peep and globe front sights added a few years to cope with aging eyes.

I'm not paying $3,100 for any marlin, unless it's the one the gunman used from the grassy knoll.

Now that Marlin is dead, I guess I'll finally have to start looking for a vintage 39. I've seen some nice older examples here and there, run in the $600-750 range. Still have and love my old .444 Sporter, it's a hoot to shoot. I have a few Marlin .22 bolts, nice older ones, from the '60's.

I just so happened to see a brand new one at So.Cal Guns in San Diego with Lyman rear peep sights for $800 big ones. I just about fell over ,Man! I bought a Vintage Golden Boy 39A with a gold Trigger at a Pawn Shop prolly in 97 for $100 bucks . Guess I'm holding onto that one, too.

There are a bunch of used ones out there for reasonable prices starting at around $350.00 in various conditions. Personally, I would start shopping and find one you can afford and fits your condition criteria.

They are only going to go up in value I can just about guarantee this. Even though I only spent $127.00 on mine new, I invested about $1,000 in a complete makeover that took a few months. (new checkered walnut stock hand fitted and polished, all steel parts highly polished and deep re-blued, action smoothed, etc.). Here are a couple pics:

In the current climate I wouldn't take $2,000 for this rifle (or any amount really, it is going to be inherited by my kids at some point).
