Twice I have had the bullet bend up out of the case and had the exact symptoms as described by the OP except that I was finally able to muscle the bolt back.

Can you see anything jammed around the bolt with the trigger pack removed? Possibly a fragment of brass wondered into the action. However, I wouldn't rule out a bend cocking rod as several people have had this happen.

Check your hammer strut c-clip position. The c-clip should be opening upwards when the strut is installed. Under some circumstances, if the c-clip is installed upside down, it will drag on the strut, and the hammer won't reset and follow the bolt forward.

If you've ever removed the strut while working on the trigger and then reassemble, and the strut moves up above the divot in the hammer, you'll notice that the hammer will get locked forward, and you need to move it further forward to allow the strut to drop back down to the divot where it can pivot (the round part on the end fits into the divot in the hammer slot).

It could be that under some odd set of circumstances, the strut move up and locked the hammer forward, which in turn would lock your bolt foward. If this were the case, then what can't be explained is how the rifle fired when you removed the trigger housing, since that sounds more like the hammer was cocked or partially cocked, and somehow released when you removed one of the retaining pins.

Check the hammer strut c-clip position and report back.

All, again thank you for all of the feedback. We are wrapped up this weekend with the final pre-wedding plans and the wife would be less than happy if I we're to be caught playing with the guns.

If there is a live round in the chamber make sure you take a cleaning rod and try to force the bullet out while backing up the bolt lolz.

That was my thought as well. Either a hunk of lead, or a piece of brass, stuck somewhere by getting wedged in to place with the weight of the bolt and spring pressure pushing it forward. I could see it sticking a bolt forward, though the firing upon removal is strange and concerning!
