+ what CJ5 said. Shoot what you have and learn the fundamentals before investing your money. Btw the only perfect score in the CMP Rimfire Sporter competitions was shot with a upgraded 10/22.Comment

I've got one but haven't really shot it that much.
For a great shooting budget gun the Remington 513 with a decent full sized scope is more accurate than most shooters will ever need.
The next step up is more costly at $800-1000 with the 52
The Gorhman is strictly a Benchrest rig at $3000 and the Calfee can go $20,000+ if it has a pedigree of national wins.Lynn Dragoman, Jr.

That is a good price for me. Thank you for the information.I was in the same situation as you several months ago. Since I did not have a lot of money, a real 22LR target gun was out of the question. I almost bought a Savage Mark II FV-SR last month with Savage's $30 rebate. It would have come to $260 before tax and DROS.
I did not like the feel of that gun and decided I would just spend the money on a better barrel for my 10/22.
This was the gun http://www.big5sportinggoods.com/sto...8&siteScope=ok
You can get it for $285 today, July 4th, if you use this 5% off coupon. http://www.big5sportinggoods.com/sto...IwMDIxNzgwOQS2

When you talk about "Precision .22" you should really discuss the ammunition before you discuss the rifle.
What version of 10/22 do you have? It may be accurate enough for your purposes if you feed it the right ammunition.
A typical Ruger 10/22 with standard barrel shooting loose-pack bulk ammo should group around 3 inches or better at 50 yards.
If you feed it some Federal Automatch (a.k.a. the best of the bulk ammo IMO) or CCI Mini-Mags, the rifle should group around 2 inches.
Shoot some CCI Standard Velocity or equivalent subsonic round, and you'll see your groups shrink down to 1 to 1.5 inches.
A Ruger 10/22 with a heavy target barrel from Kidd, Green Mountain etc. can benefit further by shooting high quality target ammunition, such as Wolf Match Target, SK Standard Plus.
3/4 inch groups at 50 yards are easy, and after finding a brand that the rifle seems to favor then 1/2 inch groups are not uncommon.
The mid-grade bolt action rifles like CZ 452s, Savage Mark IIs, Ruger American Rimfires etc. MIGHT be able to produce slightly tighter groups (in the form of fewer fliers) using slightly lower quality ammunition, but no 22 rifle, bolt or auto, will shoot tiny groups using loose-pack bulk ammo, at least not consistently.
Until you you are willing to pay $0.15 - $0.30 per round for 22 ammo, does a proper target rifle like an Anschutz 64 or straight-pull biathlon rifle make sense.
Here is a cool graphic from RWS Ammunition that illustrates what to expect from target guns shooting target ammunition.

Thank you so much for the information.
I have a modified - stock, barrel and scope. Haven't done the trigger yet.
I will try the ammunition that you are suggesting and see if I can get it down to 1" or so.Remington 700 .308

Since you are on a budget, consider this Ruger BX trigger group for your 10/22 https://grabagun.com/ruger-25.html
It is a drop-in replacement for the standard trigger group and it takes only a few minutes to install. I put one in my 10/22.

Calling a revolver a "pistol" is like calling a magazine a "clip", calling a shotgun a rifle, or a calling a man a woman.pistol nouna handgun whose chamber is integral with the barrel

I have a 10/22 stainless target model.
It's pretty much tack driver at 100 yards with decent ammo.NRA Life Member

1/2 inch groups with RWS R50 at 100 yds, better keep that Savage MK II BV.Savage Mk II BV with a 6-18x40. Tripod and rear bag, with SK std + gets me 1/2-3/4" @ 100 yds with an occaisional flyer. With RWS R50 or Eley Blue box gets me 1/2" groups all day long. Ammo makes a huge difference. I had a first run 10/22T back in the mid 90's that loved CCI standard velocity ammo. 10/22 aftermarket stuff can turn it into a tack driver if you have some bucks to spend. I havn't shot the CZ's but they are fine looking rifles. You might look into an older Mossberg trainer rifle or CMP rifle if you can find one for sale somewhere.

CZ455, match ammunition, and a quality scope should net you 1/2" to 1/4" groups at 50 yards.Originally posted by longrange1my gun shoots better with shiny brass...plus not only does the shiny brass make me look like a pimp at the range if the sun catches it just right it blinds the guy next to me which improves my odds of winning the match.Originally posted by XDJYoFull size. Killoughs Shooting Sports in Texas. Go online to the store. They sell used BR rifles that can get you going at a minimal outlay. And these will be serious rimfire bench rifles that really shoot.Comment
