    Lever Action 22's

When my first kid was born, I wanted to have something to give him when he was old enough to shoot so I convinced my wife that I needed to get a 22 for him. She understood (first born and all) and shortly after, a Winchester 94/22 Legacy fell into my lap which I was able to snag. It's a great shooter, in like new condition and I couldn't be happier with it. Super stoked to have him shoot it when he's a little bit older.

2 year later, and my second child is born. Now I'm fair and don't want him to feel left out, so I once again get to work and convince my wife that a second lever action is needed (you know... no favoritism). She relents, and I soon pick up a Browning BL-22 Grade II for the younger son. Again, great shooter. Short lever throw is amazing. Now I'm twice as stoked to have two boys that will go shooting with me and that I have something for both of them to call their first guns.

Now here comes the issue I'm having. I'm starting to feel left out and like my 10/22 doesn't seem so special anymore. How can I possibly convince my wife that I need yet another 22? Maybe I can convince her that SHE needs one? Maybe instead of a lever action, I aim for a bolt action? We don't have one of those yet.

Since you no longer love it, sell the Ruger to a good home, get the Henry or Marlin levergun.

Won't sell it, the Ruger was my first gun and I still love it.

There's just something about a manually operated 22 that feels so right. It reminds me of childhood for some reason. When I cycle the action, it takes me back to shooting my first rifle at scout camp at 11 years old.

You are on the right track with your wife needing one. That way, everyone in the family has one to shoot. No better way to sell it than "family."

I had a bunch of .22's in my life time..........still got a Marlin 60 and Nylon 66 floating around the house somewhere. BUT my Henry h001 is gotta be the most fun .22 rifle I've ever shot!
Take her shooting someplace where you can rent a lever action and I bet she'll want to buy one on the way home!

              How about a pump action?

Over the years I've had different "favorite" rifles between semis, bolts, and levers, but since about '05 the .22 I enjoy shooting the most is my '56 Winchester Model 61 pump action.

Probably because it brings back fond memories from my childhood of shooting a pump action at a little shooting gallery at a roadside gas station/trading post on I-8 near Gila Bend (between Tucson and Yuma, AZ) waaay back in the early 70's.

My old Winnie is light, accurate, and the pump action is short stroke and super smooth. It's my favorite plinker and the one I enjoy shooting the most of all my rimfire rifles.

I had two 10-22, a Marlin 60 and a Henry lever action. Now a day, the rifle that I shoot most is the Henry lever action, I am getting tired with the semi-auto "just pull the trigger" , it's boring. Lever action is more fun, more thing to do, more control and best of all it is more "cowboy action"

Just go buy one. If it is a big problem, sell the wife.

I agree, just go buy one. I find it easier to get forgiveness than permission.

                        Is there any other choice?

A good bolt gun is good to have. The CZ line provides great quality for the money. A used (or new if you can find one) 452 American is sweet. Or go with the current production 455.

For the wife, consider custom serialized Henry lever guns...it is a cool option for matching guns, one for you and one for her.

Easy. Its mothers day, buy her one. If she doesnt like it you get it. If she does, now you're the only one without one and fathers day is right around the corner.
