Need Suggestions on 22 lr Pistol

Hey guys,

Looking to purchase a 22 pistol but not sure where to end up given all of the options. It would be used for indoor range mostly and ideally I'd like to put a red dot/RMR on it, but not totally stuck on that idea and open to expert opinions. I have the least experience with 22's as i shoot mostly 9 and 45, so hoping you all can help.

I was looking at both browning buckmarks, the Ruger Mark 4's, maybe even the S&W 22? But there are a lot of versions of each and I am not sure which is best.

Budget in the 400-800 range w/o optics. But hoping to be closer to the lower end.

I just bought a gsg 1911-22 and I love it! Search YouTube for nictaylor, he has several videos on the gun, showing upgrades. The gsg has pretty good aftermarket support, and nic has optics on some of his. Mine was 285+ fees brand new, leaving lots of room for customization. I've read/seen reviews of them with 50-60k rounds thru them

Ruger Mark IVs are not on the CA DOJ roster, so you would need an out-of-state relative or law enforcement officer to transfer it to you.

I just bought a Heritage Arms Rough Rider 22LR, $170 OTD.

ruger single six: 22lr for plinking, 22wmr for something more. my latest used one came without the 22wmr cylinder, so i got a replacement from midway. now i have a "single eight." eats anything, more accurate than i deserve, built for several lifetimes.

I had: Buckmark, Mark II (not IV) and SW22A1 . My recommendation is: Stay away from SW22A1.
For optic, the Buckmark Contour has the weaver rail build in, the SW22A1 has the weaver rail build-in also but get away form it.
So Buckmark Contour is the winner. If you have some buck to spend then take a look at the new model of SW41 ($1.4K) it has the rail build in.

I have a buckmark that I added an aftermarket rail and mounted a red dot.
Very happy with the setup.

The Ruger Mark 4 & the S&W SW22 Victory are off-Roster and will end up costing around $800-1400, if you can find one for sale in CA.
^If you are willing to spend that much, then you should be looking at the S&W Model 41 (Roster exempt OTP).

With so few guns on roster,you're choices are limited except what is PPT.
Buckmark looks like a good choice,I have a GSG 1911 but it had some
teething problems which I'm able to fix (being old and decrepit with 1911 experience)and for a first timer I wouldn't recommend it.

I had trouble with the Ruger MK 1 -- I was unconsciously pushing the magazine release button.
Bought the Buckmark Contour with built in full length scope mount.

I am going to respectfully disagree with you on the S&W22a. I picked one up used for my wife to join me at Steel Challenge.

Pistol $280 out the door.
Bushnell TRS-25 on for another $55
5 mags @ $19.95 ea
Budget Steel Challenge Pistol acquired!

The pistol just runs like a top. Decent stock trigger, runs any ammo, even STD Vel. Great grip ergonomics. Heavy barrel and rail keeping recoil down.

Unknown round count by previous owner but she is somewhere North of 2k rounds. What's not to love?
The secret to these guys is to run them almost dry. No oil/lube/grease anywhere.

Totally agree with this. Shot them all and own some of them. For the price, the S&W22 is just hard to beat.
