    Go No Go Gauges

I have a Feddersen 16.25" barrel being delivered Monday and I'm excited to swap it with my factory 10/22 barrel. Been looking online at the install and I'm seeing the need for the go no go gauges to test the headspace. I've been looking online and seeing that they're about $60 plus shipping and then shipping time for these. Anybody in the Tracy area have them and would let me use theirs? It something I think will be a one time use so I'm being cheap and not looking to spend the money but I may have to. Any other cheaper alternatives or is this one of those things. Any tips for this from others?

Also is anti seize recommended for the Feddersen barrel swap? I've never done this before but it appears to be an easy thing to do.

    Thanks in advance.

Not to worry. Headspace on your 10-22 is controlled by the "recess in the bolt face". Which as a blowbak action is held in place by recoil spring tension. The barrel breech is "Flat Faced". There is nothing to adjust as far as headspace is concerned.

If it shoots now, without blowing out rims. It will shoot with your new barrel just fine.

If on the other hand, you are changing the bolt. And are really curious. You can mic and compare the new bolt face recess to the old bolt face recess.

May swap the bolt sometime down the line.

Thank you for the response. Looking forward to this build and will post pictures once it's done. Brimstone Tier 1 trigger in the works also.

I'm building a 10/22 with one of the new Feddersen receivers (luckily got one of the free ones to try out), and a Fedddersen 18" contoured barrel over the next month or so.

All of the other parts will be factory (including the sporter stock), parts I've fabricated or reworked by me. I'll be polishing, headspacing, and radiusing the bolt and cross pinning the firing pin. I'll probably have a few DIY posts on some of the mods, in case you want to tackle some mods yourself.

You adjust headspace by machining. Bolt face in milling machine.

The factory bolt that arrived on Wednesday isn't too bad at 0.046", so I only need to take off 0.003". I'll probably finish the bolt tomorrow, but need to take a trip to Home Depot to get a roll pin for cross pinning.
