    10/22 extremely inaccurate with Irons?

I have a brand new ruger 10/22 with non adjustable iron sights and the gun is shooting all over the place at 25 yards indoors. It won't even keep rounds within a 8" circle. Seriously what gives? The sights seem to be mounted dead on but they won't even hit the broad side of a barn. Is there something wrong with the sights or is it the actual gun?

If the front and rear sights are tight, then the sights are not the cause of the large groups. Next, I would check the take down screw and the V block screws to see if they are tight.

Rear sight is adjustable for vertical movement. IMO they suck. Buy some Tec Sites. Good luck.

I thought that could be the culprit but I mounted a scope and it zero' just fine.

          A few questions:
          1. Off hand, or rested?
          2. What kind of ammo?
          3. How's the crown look?

How well does the rifle group when you shoot with the scope?

              Does it group fine?

We want to isolate shooter vs. gun vs. ammo problems.

About half an inch when rested.

Rested but not on a led sled. Federal HV.

                  The crown is undamaged.

Ok, sounds like it is a sight problem.

Have you used irons just fine with other guns? Have you had another known to be good shooter shoot your rifle?

I've got a brand new takedown that the front sight fell off of after 50 or so rounds. Very possible yours is loose.

If the barrel/receiver/ sights are mechanically tight and the rifle is accurate with a scope my WAG points to the shooter. No offense OP.
Sight picture, consistent hold, trigger control etc..

Wait so the gun shoots perfectly fine with a scope but turns to complete garbage with irons?

Hmm, 8" at 25 yards is a lot, especially if the rifle is rested, so I'm guessing that can't all be from ammo, sights, or even the crappy stock trigger, but something is loose and moving (like the takedown screw or vblock screws as someone suggested). Even if the sights were loose, they'd just about have to be falling off to cause 8" of variation.
