New 10/22 build

Picked up a 10/22 at Big 5 for $229 and built it up a little. I ended up swapping to a Hogue overmold stock that I had laying around, swapped the stock barrel to a 16.5" KIDD Ultralight barrel and put on a Primary Arms MD-ADS red dot. Next up will be a trigger and possibly new bolt. I took her out yesterday and zero'd it in at 25 yards with dime size groups with some old bulk federal ammo. Super stoked on how light and handy this rifle is. Time to order more ammo!!

A stock 10/22 would of been just fine. But, with all the available upgrades why not???

No kidding. Just ordered a 16.5 UL fluted barrel, bolt hold-open/auto release, extractor/spring, and buffer from Kidd. You know, the essential stuff. Yet these few parts already exceeded how much I paid for the rifle. I sure hope they are worth it.

Did an ammo test today and have to say I'm completely impressed with this rifle!! It shot everything reliably from CCI Minimags, Federal Auto Match, Federal Bulk 525, American Eagle 38gr, Remington Thunderbolts and Winchester M22. All with very good consistency. Gotta love it!!

Why when Marlin 795 and others are more accurate out of the box.

The stock 10/22 isn't "just fine"; it is mediocre at best. They should cost half as much new, considering you have to throw half of it away and replace with better stuff.

Might as well start with a bare receiver and bolt.

Don't get me wrong; I like 10/22's. I just don't like that you have to replace most of the rifle to get a good shooter. Built a couple up for Appleseed. Trigger, sights, mag release etc to make it a decent shooter.

The Marlin 142A carbine my Dad got back in 1950 is more accurate than those two 10/22's I use for appleseed; 67 year old budget carbine with thousands upon thousands of rounds thru it is more accurate.

A stock 10/22 would of been just fine. But, with all the available upgrades why not???

Kidd UL barrel
Kidd mag release
PA micro dot
Brimstone trigger job
Pro mag bolt buffer

Unfortunately the aluminum Kidd mag release broke rather easily, I'll be replacing it with the same VQ release I have on mine.

Brimstone does nice work at a reasonable price. I went with the Tier 2 job 😎
