Armalite explore ar7 a rare find?

So I wanted to know if the original Ar7 is a rare gun?
Believe it or not my grandfather use to work at armalite
And owns the original ar7. Still in the box. I mean with the
Manual and warranty card. I know Henry makes this rifle now

I was just curious if any of you have seen one of these or even the box
I know I've been on calguns for a long time and have yet to see one for sale

I have one that I bought used many years ago without a box. It is a fun gun but very picky about magazines.

I have seen two NIB original AR7's at gun shows within the last couple of years. IIRC, one sold for $700; the other was on sale for $1000 but I don't know if it sold or not.

I had one in camo many years ago. I kept it under the rear seat of my old 4X4. Unfortunately when I sold the truck I forgot about the gun! Someone got a sweet find.

That's actually a lot better than I expected. I figured they would still run around the same as the new ones. Sorry about yours bro. Atleast you know you made someone's day ahaha. Hey with that being said about the ar7 if you had one would you still shoot it. Or just keep it as a safe queen?

NIB unfired would be rare, and prolly worth buck$ to the right person, other than me. Should be valuable to YOU, since it was your gramps'. There's no real need to shoot it and wreck that aspect of it. They have a poor reputation with feeding issues, which is from folks using the mag as a rest.

On mine ($75 bucks), I put a strip of sticky backed Velcro on the bottom of the mag well, to keep slight up angle on the feed lips.

I had a short plastic fore arm, that the barrel channel was the same profile as the AR7 barrel. I relieved a chunk to allow for the lock nut, then put Velcro on the barrel and in the fore arm bed. I put another piece on the stock, just behind the wrist, so when you broke it down, you could stick the fore arm to the stock, and stow the rifle as designed.

When assembled to shoot, the rifle is supported in a normal fashion. The set up works good, both mods helped to eliminate/minimize the jam-o-matic aspect. You can just make out the mods in this picture PAX

Thanks for the info. In short because it's my grandfathers I won't be selling it. But it's always good to know the worth of something. I've heard about theses rifles jamming a lot (on the last round). I don't know if it's even been shot or not
It's just been sitting in its box for years. I think I will end up taking it out some day and testing it out. The only thing wrong with this rifle is it's missing it's rear iron site and screw to secure it. Luckily I found a website that sells ar7 parts. I'll post a photo on here in a few to show you it. By the way nice Collection!! I need some more 22's

I think the value in those older ones is mainly collector value, so I wouldn't shoot it.
I have a newer Henry one which is basically identical and it is VERY reliable, more reliable than my wife's 10/22. I have put some of the cheapest crappiest ammo through it without a hiccup. The trigger sucks and so do the sights.....but it is a survival gun, not a match rifle.
