Quiet .22 rimfire in 24" barrel

What I noticed right away in this article is that longer barrels are much quieter.

For instance he says a 24" compared to 22" in much quieter (he was surprised to find just 2" made this big a difference).

He said CCI Long CB Caps from a 24" barrel the bullet striking the wood target was louder than the gunshot !

Henry makes a 24" barrel 22 lever action, the Frontier and I am going to buy one.

" The Quiet-22 quickly became one of my favorite ammunition choices for use in my Stevens 86C. This bolt action has a long barrel and is very quiet with the CCI Quiet-22 ammo. Quiet-22 feeds reliably from the tubular magazine and is only slightly louder — to my ears — than the CB Long cartridge. The bullet strike is still the loudest sound. I can shoot in the early morning at a suburban range without complaints from anyone in nearby houses. Even someone in the parking lot of the range would not likely hear the shots! "

Very noticeable in pistols. 2 inch snubby is so much louder than a 4 incher.

Quiets usually get stuck in my ultra lux barrel (28 inch barrel), the CB shorts are very quiet and have shot well.

OK I'm going to have to get ahold of some of these Quiet-22s and experiment for myself. I've got a Kimber bolt rifle w 25" barrel and a Walther P22 w 3 1/2" barrel and several barrel lengths inbetween. I have a chrono and can borrow a noise meter to compile both velocity and decibels.

Try some quite 22 Cci. Not quite enough for my propose. Hoping Super Colibri comes back in stock.

Quiets are not accurate at 25 yards. On a ten target test (Rimfire Central 25 yard target) I get 100s regularly with my Rem 540 X and a lousy 54 with Quiets. They are quiet of course but I don't shoot them much because of the inaccuracy. Not bad for a revolver at 10 yards with neighbors around.

A friend of mine built a custom 10/22 with a 26" barrel that can shoot 22 short. The action cycling is louder than the report.

Any long barrel bolt action could work well with this too.

My Beeman .177 makes more noise than high speed shorts in my long barreled .22's

Just curious, how did your friend modify the magazine to accept .22 shorts?

I love the CCI quiet segmented stuff for squirrels. Whack, thump, without the bang or crack so the other critters don't go in to hiding.

I've shot Aguila Colibri out of my Crickett. It's still loud. Not like a regular 22LR, but definitely louder than an air gun.

Not sure, that's a good question. He probably just bought an aftermarket magazine designed for such a conversion.

I more often that I care to ..... head shoot grounds hogs at 31yds with CCI Quiets from a N.E.F Sportster.

I am waiting for Alpha Romeo's chart of noise vs. barrel lengths! Will be very interesting!

Those 24" Henrys are new to catalog in 2016, in regular .22 or .22 magnum. They also have them both in special suppressor ready models (for the more saner States in America). Davidson's Gun Genie has them (non suppressor) in stock now, they go in and out of stock last few months.
