Bought my dad a rifle

So my dad is turning 70 this year. He's been needling me for years to talk my mom into buying him a rifle, but she never got around to it. Financially, he could buy anything he wants, and occasionally he will get himself one. In fact he just built his first AR this past summer. But it seems he has had this dream of someone actually buying him a rifle since he was a kid (don't we all??).

Anyway, every year it seems to be a different one I'm supposed to talk mom into buying for him. This year, he's been talking about a Henry. Him hitting seventy got me thinking, and so I decided to go ahead and make it happen.

Yesterday I ordered him a Henry "Silver Boy". Model H004S. Basically, it's a Golden Boy, but silver.

So thanks for reading. I'm excited so I had to tell someone!

Hey, I thought you can order engraved Henry's too? Maybe check into that. I think you can do custom serial numbers etc.

You know, I did read about the Henry engraving and thought about doing it. But since I'm going at this alone and am a bit pressed for time, I passed. I am thinking of doing a dust cover for his AR he built though. He talked about wanting his unit from Vietnam on it. Maybe for Christmas.

I bought an M1 Garand a few years before my pops died, got one that was serialed close to his time in service, and the seller made a single rifle crate with his name, rank and SN stenciled on it. The look on his face was priceless. Someplace around here I have a picture of him in his Eisenhower jacket, cover and rifle slung over his shoulder.

That is so awesome. So cool that you were able to do that for him. Just wow. I bet his face was worth the effort times 100.

My Father in Law is retired USMC. Years ago we bought him a Henry Golden Boy and had Henry engrave his name, rank and service dates on a receiver cover. We gave it to him on Veteran's Day and he was quite touched. Someday it will come back and be handed down to his great grandson.

The Henry is unfired as he declared that it was too beautiful to shoot. I later gave him a Marlin model 60 so he also had a shooter.

what a great thing to do. I hope you and he get to enjoy a lot of good range time with it. I know I fall into the same trap as most of us, that we always want to acquire more. But now as my Dad is getting older, what is priceless is still being able to get some range time with him.

But your post gave me a great idea -- my son is getting started in scouting and I am not going to offer this up as an incentive, but when he makes Eagle I am going to get him a custom engraved rifle as a gift.

I miss my dad. We shared a love of shooting and collecting guns. He's been gone 31 years, but both my sons have rifles their Grandpa bought for them.

Great thoughts and memories fellas. It seems that to guys like us, a beautiful rifle is pretty darn personal. To come from a loved one, it is even more so. I'm thankful I can do this for my dad.

I don't know if it still works this way but, when we had the engraving for my FIL, Henry engraves a receiver cover there and ships it to you. We put his on before we gave it to him. You could give him the rifle now and an engraved receiver cover for Christmas.
