Recently purchased my first rifle, the Smith & Wesson M&P 15-22. My model was the NJ compliant version, which came with the non-threaded barrel and pinned stock. Being in CA I quickly unpinned the stock and wanted to find something to do with the small diameter barrel.
There were very limited options to buying a non-threaded barrel cover (faux suppressor), also they were quite pricy for just a cosmetic part. The other option was to buy a adapter attachment that would allow me to thread something on. But nearing $100 for the adapter and cover, it wasn't worth it for me.
With some basic CAD knowledge and access to 3D printers, I decided to make my own. These are made with PLA material, which have a very low melting point. I've tested these at the local ranges and ran about 100 rounds through it, noted that there is a 3 second rule between each shot, I haven't had any issues with the barrel getting too hot for the 3D printed barrel cover.

Here is a honey comb design, this one is straight off the printer as it would be too much work to sand inside each honey comb. I may try to sand blast it once I get access to one.
