    MP5 .22LR

Which HV .22 ammo is best to use in this rifle?

What is considered normal vs. high velocity?

(I'm new to the .22 Rimfire world.)

    Thanks

In terms of HV ammo specifically, I would say CCI mini-mag. But you don't need to use HV ammo, these guns will cycle anything. I personally use CCI standard velocity, and CCI AR tactical.

High velocity is generally over 1125-1070 FPS for 22lr. So Winchester Super-X, some variants of Aguila, some CCI, etc. This rifle eats anything from my experience.

I see I've got some options then.

        Thanks again for the info.

Don't commit to any one brand just yet.
Buy several different types from different mfgs. then shoot from a bench rest to see how the ammo groups from each one and then decide what your rifle likes.
No need to "zero in" each one, just observe the groupings and then make your choice.

I finally shot my MP5's (A5 and SD) today. I specifically tested various types (8 different ones to be exact) of ammo. I must say, their appetite was fabulous!!!

They shot everything well. The only ammo they did not cycle was the CCI Quiet (710 fps), which I expected, but I wanted to try anyways. Even the CCI Standard Velocity cycled just fine.

I tested the following: Federal Automatch, Federal American Eagle 36 grn CPHP, Federal American Eagle 40 grn LRN, Federal Champion 40 grn LRN, Federal Bulk Pack 36 grn CPHP, Remington GB 36 grn HP, CCI SV and CCI Quiet. Zilch issues (I do not consider CCI Quiet performance to be an issue as that ammo is designed for bolt action, revolver and lever action).

            Hope this helps.

Good reminder to try out many different brands of ammo with a new gun to see what she likes and dislikes.

Short answer - Remington GB and Federal Champion.

Keep in mind though, I was focused on reliability and ignition. I still tried to hit the target (I had a target for each type of ammo) and got groups of 10 shots on each. But I did not try to get the best groups I could. It was more like a plinking exercise actually. But those two gave me the best groups out of the eight.

                        Thanks.
CCI Mini Mags work best for me in my Ruger 10/22 but the Golden Bullets (New Improved rather than older stuff) are right up there as well. Federal Champion...not so much.
