Difference in Henry Lever Action 22

They have so many models and makes it hard to decide.

I want a basic lever action that is fun and reliable to shoot.

Bells and whistles arent needed but if its needed then ill do it. I would like to add a cheap scope and thats about it.

Can anyone break down the options?
Is octagon more accurate?
Will one type of receiver wear out sooner?
Does one jam more often?

I am leaning towards just a standard cheaper one for fun.

I am only planning on buying one 22 LR rifle and figure this will be more fun than a 10/22

All the Henry's are good some are just fancier then others.

So if i purchased the basic one the H001 it should function and perform about 99% as good as a better one?

If you want one that looks good and decide to get the "brass" model, keep in mind that it isn't brass but an alloy. Doesn't really matter, it still shoots as good as the rest of the models

If you really want to put a scope on it then I question why not get a bolt action rifle? Putting a scope on a rifle made to look like its from 1894 kinda defeats the image in my opinion.

I read that the Henry rimfire golden boys just have a brass covering over a steel receiver, whereas the centerfire big boys have a true solid brass receiver.

A longer barrel model will give you more ammo capacity in the tube and a longer site radius with iron sights.

H001 is your basic Henry action! It has a very smooth action, good accuracy and most of all.........a ball of fun to shoot!
I've had mine maybe three-four years now or so, works great with all the cheap ammo I've ever put through it!
Gotta be my favorite rimfire rifle of all time..................and there's been bunch of them!

I bought my son the small game model which is a H001 with a big hoop and upgraded iron sights. Brings the sights up to a level of accuracy more matched to the rifle.

Yep, I have the large loop carbine and it's an excellent gun that is very fun to shoot. Have never had a problem with it and I have had it for years. Instead of a scope look into a Skinner peep sight as noted on the Henry site.

I can't site the CA regulations but tube fed rimfire rifles are exempt from the 10 round limit, regardleds if bolt, pump, lever or semi-auto action.

The Henry 20" barrel holds 16 LR rounds versus the 16" barrel only holds 12.

I have an older Marlin with 24" barrel that holds 18 22LR in the tube.

I went and held a h001 and it felt good. I thought the level was going to be small but was good.

I remember shooting a lever before and I almost kept pinching my finger when I open and closed

There is 0 difference in quality and accuracy between the plain jane and fancy models. Other than looks, octagon is no better than round barrel. The Gold and Silver models show wear more than the blued models.

I see comments often about not scoping a lever gun. To each his own. My one lever gun is scoped and I'm much more accurate with it than with either basic or the Skinner's I tried.

Theres people who own the basic black one and strip the receiver so its silver color. Seems like an inexpensive way to get the fancy look
