    Thinking about getting M&P 15-22

I thinking about getting a M&P 15-22 Why do they have so many different models I understand the 10 round for ca & 25 round for the free states

What is the difference in the performance series VS Sport and the threaded Barrel VS Non Threaded barrel

I don't have one but I took a quick look at the S&W web site.
The main difference between the Performance vs the Sport is the "match grade" barrel and the 2-stage trigger on the Performance (for $250 more)

If you shoot cheap ammo you may not see much difference in the barrels but you will feel the difference in the triggers. A quality higher magnification scope will give most people a better grouping than the iron sights.

The threaded barrel is just in case you want to look tacticool with a flash hider or fake suppressor.

The Performance version is almost 2x the price of the Sport model and comes with modifications you don't really need.

I personally would go with the bare bones CA compliant Sport model and research what modifications (if any) you want to add yourself.

Also, a threaded barrel allows for the attachment of a flash hider, suppressor, etc (the latter of which is obviously illegal in CA)

            I have a standard.

I installed a two stage trigger very easily and it works great.

Out of the box, most accurate semi 22 I've owned. Outstanding accuracy
with a lot of bulk Ammo -----with very few failures. When I can hit small
hanging silhouettes at ASR(100 yds)---offhand(that means STANDING on
              two hind legs)----that's a great 22.

The M&P 15-22 can accept a lot of standard AR parts so you can easily upgrade the trigger if you'd like. I use a Bushnell TRS-25 red dot on mine and it's lots of fun. I wouldn't spend the extra money on the Performance model unless you don't want to do any upgrades and want something all stock. That's best for collectibility but I don't see these being a collectible.

My son-in-law has one. He bought it 2 years ago or so, put a red dot on it and shot bulk ammo without problems. I was surprised how accurate it was. It was even better with SK HV.

I have the bare bones one myself. It's a great rifle I haven't felt the need to change a single thing it shoots that good for me.
