Greetings Calgunners,
As the title suggests, I would appreciate your help/opinion/feedback on the next rifle I should buy. It must be a .17 HMR and here's the story.
I have family with a lot of land in central California which has bad varmint problems, primarily ground squirrels. I enjoy helping them reduce the population of said ground squirrels. Our sessions can easily hit triple digit varmint numbers in a single day. I recently borrowed a family members 17 HMR and loved it way more than the 22 mag I had been using. I went home and looked up the ballistics on the 17 HMR, and loved it even more! Now I have to have one
My personal preferences include bolt action and Wood or Wood Laminate stock. It will be paired with a simple BSA Sweet 17 3-12x40, so no professional target shooting here. I'd like to keep it under 600, but all of these preferences could change if you could convince me otherwise!
After my research, I like these two in particular:Savage 93R17-GV and Savage 93R17-BTV
