    Best 10/22 folding stock

So what the best choices, short of a $500 auto ordinance underfolder unicorn.

Open to either side or underfold.

I can't speak for all since I don't know what's available these days, but I had the unicorn you speak of , then swapped it for a Ramline side folder.

The under folder was much cooler looking, but the brittle plastic Ram was much lighter, and at the time I back packed a lot and carried it with. PAX

      Unicorn captured!
      Yes these are both mine.

I do like the stainless side folder a lot.
      I've had it for years.
It was made by a company before Butler Creek bought them up, and that is who makes them now.
It opens fast and locks folded too, which is nice.
The lock up is still tight, although I did make a hollow pivot pin for it to remove a half ounce of weight for really no good reason at all.

The Ordnance stock is a classic, and you get that MP38/40 feel from the butt.
But, the side folder is quicker into action and overall more comfortable.

The red dot is currently off the sidefolder, replaced by a set of Williams sights, a peep rear with pistol blade white vertical line front sight.
The Williams sights seem to fit the rough and tumble simple and light concept better than the red dot.

Im actually really interested in the ramline stocks, they are rumored to have made a wooden side folder which id give my right nut for.

What did you think of the black plastic one? Sturdy? Was the lock up tight?

Damn both of you guys had the unicorn stocks...

I checked out the plastic ram line back in the day.
It was super light with tight lock up.
The waffle pattern front grip area felt skinny and didn't feel right.

The wood ramline stock is now another unicorn to hunt down.
There's pics of it on Google images.
It looks like the Mini14 / AC556 folder.

What is going rate on those underfolder stocks? Didn't Federal Ordnance sell them?

                MD,

In spite of the Ramline being apparently cheap and obviously brittle, I liked it enough to keep it on my first 10/22 for 35+ years, and just this year changed out to a TacStar. I did a little work on the folding stock area. I tapered the shaft 45* where your cheek wield is, so there wasn't a hard edge against your face. It also helped the rear peep & hooded front with quick sight acquisition. I wasn't abusive to it so it's held up, but hasn't seen much use since .22 bricks started to cost more than 10 bucks, and the SKSs came on board.

Many milk cartons & tin cans bought the farm with that set up. Few wabbits & greys too. PAX
