Henry 22 Lever Action Trigger Help

Hey fellow Calgunners. So I have a small issue. Today for the first time since I purchased my Henry 22 Lever Action from a friend I took it apart to clean it, and upon putting it back together I'm not sure if I did it correctly.

It seems to be working just fine and everything seemed to go back together properly, I even actuated the lever and pulled the trigger to see if the hammer snapped back like it should and it did. But there is were my problem might or might not be.

Once I pull the trigger, there is absolutely no play in the trigger. It's seated all the way back and I cannot pull back on it at all. Now for the life of me and after thousands of rounds I cannot remember if this is normal or not. Did I put the hammer back incorrectly and somehow take that extra "play" away from the trigger? Or is this normal Henry 22 Lever Action behavior.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

If you happen to have a Henry 22 Lever Action laying around can you grab it and pull the trigger without having the hammer cocked. Does the trigger move? Or is it all the way back with no movement?

Thanks for the help guys and gals.

I just checked my Henry Mare's Leg 22, which is the same rifle cut down to a pistol. The trigger does not budge when the gun is decocked. There is no play.

Henry also has great videos on their website that takes you through complete tear down and reassembly. Here is the video series for the 22LR. Click on 'Reassembly'

Just an update is anyone was still interested in this.

Also thanks for the tip joe47.

I took the Henry apart and soon realized that a tiny little spring that sits in the trigger (held in there by white grease) had somehow become bent when re-installing it. Since the spring was bent it no longer provided the "bounce/play" in the trigger when the rifle was not cocked.

I took that little spring out and straightened it out as best I could. Once I put it back in all seemed well. It seems to function properly now (I haven't taken it out to the range since putting it back together though). I guess the best indicator that I have that it's working is that all sounds well, and moves smoothly as it should.

I'll probably end up ordering another spring from Henry if possible for my next cleaning.

Again thanks everyone and I hope this helps anyone else who might have had a similar issue (most likely no one).

Send an email to Henry. Every time I have done so it has reached Anthony Imperato, the President, directly and he has personally gotten back to me quickly. Outstanding customer service, I'll bet they will send a spring to you gratis.
