Anybody have a P22 ?

I got a nice deal so im happy with the purchase

I have shot one before it was pretty fun, I didn't like the trigger too much, but it was a decent shooter. thinking of some upgrades what do you guys recommend ?

how are these in the long run ? Is there anything I should know that might mess up ? Also what type of ammo have you found it likes best ? I have read that it can be picky with certain ammo

Just like the Mosquito, (though not as bad) it's better to use CCI round nose. Cheap ammo like Thunderbolts etc. will jam halfway through a magazine with annoying frequency.

I have 2 and they really like mini mags but I really have not had a problem with other ammo either. They shoot it all for me.

Fun little guns and I use mine as a starter for any newbie shooters I take to the range, I bought mine back in 2011 and it still works very well. Has a preference for high velocity round nose, but will work fine with most hollowpoints too. Mine does not like any sort of Remington bulk, and is hit or miss on Winchester bulk. Federal Automatch, any sort of CCI with an exception of the Quiet's and Aguila copper plated ammo usually give me the best results.

I love my little P22. Bought one when they first came out. A year or two later I receive a letter saying I have a dangerous killer, as the muzzle nut was easily removable, revealing a threaded barrel. Had to send it back for Walther (S&W) to permanently fix the nut. I had about 1000 rounds through her at the time, they replaced the recoil spring for free and she runs great! Is picky about ammo, but eats high velocity stuff all day. Luckily, mine really likes cheap Remington green and yellow bricks so that's her regular diet.

I actually like the trigger on it. The reset isn't bad, and I can get 10 shots off darn quick. My wife shoots this one so well, it more or less belongs to her now.

This. I have had 2 in the past. Don't own one now. They are fun little shooters, but the only ammo I could get to run reliably through either of them was Mini-Mags.

I enjoy my P22CA, but it is pickey with ammo. I have tried Winchester 100 packs and it wouldn't cycle, tried Winchester white box bulk and it wouldn't cycle. Put some Remington "Golden Bullets" in it, eats em up like a champ!
which is great news since I have 2 or 3 of the "Bucket O Bullets" slowly getting picked away...

Also, not a necessity, but my life got alot easier when I got a aftermarket slide spring assembly thats a solid unit

I usually shoot my Mark III more, but they are hard to get for a reasonable price in CA now. If i had more of a choice, I would have gotten an SR22 ove rthe P22, but again, these 22 plinkers are "UNSAFE!!!!" so CA gets screwed, but at least this one is still an option for us... be prepared to struggle with some ammo before you find one it likes. its a fun little plinker when you get it going, hard to find a more entertaining handgun gun for less money.

Do the current production P22's still have the internal gun lock "feature"? Mine came with a little key that fit a hole on the right side of the frame which allowed you to "lock/unlock" the pistol. It was not sufficient fot Calif regulations so still had to purchase a cable lock to leave the store. But IF you used the key to lock the gun AND THEN racked the slide withhout unlocking first, WELL NOW you had to disassemble the gun to get it to function at all.

After I got mine reassembled from the above problem I literally threw away that key so it could never happen again.

I learned to like mine after it really broke in and I figured out it only likes a couple types of ammo and is hopeless with anything else. I'll try one off these RSA's! I didn't know about these. I have had FO sight for years and didn't install yet. Time to update the little piece and take it out I suppose.

I have more fun with the Ruger MKII and Advantage Arms Glock conversions. A nicer trigger would be great, but I doubt I'll put anymore money into the P22 besides that RSA. I'll just shoot it till the slide cracks.

I was frequently getting a failure to feed with my P22. After sanding and polishing the hammer it rarely hangs up.
