    10/22 dros scare

My son dros a gun then go to pick it up and the shop owner who was not there when drops was filled out looks at the weapon(10/22 arch angel) picks it up inspects it folds stock goes gets a measuring tape and measures the thing folded and says "this thing is illegal " i can't let you have it I'll have to call the atf/doj and see what they want to do. I'm freaking out bought from a calgunner get him on line go outside to talk then come back into shop and the guy has done a little web search to find out that the 16 inch barrel is now legal at 27 inches folded made it by an inch.i guess the 30 inch rule does not apply to rimfire and now the shop is clear on this also. So off we go with said weapon. But geezs what a scare for me and my son who was getting the gun. My take away is to do more research before I buy any guns. And not to rely on the shop peeps.

That was a close one op. I ****en hate it when stuff like that happens. Especially since it's all just non-sense thanks to our ridiculous CA government that would not be an issue everywhere else in the country.

Went to sell a standard Saigo last year via private party and the shop says it's an illeagle assault rifle. I mean really as I am looking at AR's on the back wall

So to be clear, you could buy the 10/22 barrel and receiver independent, and negate all the drama?

This thread should be in "How CA Laws Affect Me" or "Autoloading Rifles" or "Rimfire" or "General Gun Discussions", anywhere but in "Handguns".

That said, I'm glad the OP got things straightened out.

However, be aware that most of the older 10/22 aftermarket folding stocks out there were made when there were only 18.5" long barreled Ruger 10/22s for sale.
The stock makers did not think that people might use 16" long barrels on them, and then would end up too short in overall length for Federal law.

Now that the 16" barrels are becoming more available, do double check before assembling to be sure you make the 26" minimum length with the stock folded or collapsed that CA law requires before assembling.
(Fed law measures with the stock open).
I have an older folder stock here that could be 25" OAL if folded and assembled with a 16" barrel.
Do be careful, an inch too short is not worth the potential hassle.

                  Muzzle Break

I have an older folder stock here that could be 25" OAL if folded and assembled with a 16" barrel.
Use a different muzzle at a longer length that is fixed on and you have your extra inches.

Overall length doesn't require permanently attached parts like barrel length does so a threaded on muzzle device will be fine.
