Never clean your 22lr pistol, what?

The gun room owner told me that people usually never clean their 22 pistols.
    Really?

    What's your input?

    Thanks!

Every few thousand rounds, mainly due to time constraints, I could go to the range or clean tools-would rather spend time at the range.
On the firing line- depending on the day, determines which side of the line I'm supposed to stand on!

I don't shoot enough to clean them :/
Unless they gunk up on the range, that calls for a cleaning.

If they stop functioning properly, I clean them. Until then, meh, it's not gonna get used for HD anyway.
        Sorry, not sorry.

If you over lube your Buckmark, it's going to need a cleaning, as otherwise grime will accumulate and slow things down.

If you're using cheap ammo, you may find it burns pretty dirty and want to clean your gun as it can get visibly filthy pretty quickly.

Otherwise though, you don't have to overthink it.

You remember the kid that was always dirty in grad school, the one that smelled bad and no one wanted to play with. That is how some of my 22s are. The other caliber guns don't like to be around them so, I got a safe just for them. I couldn't get all of them in that one safe so, the clean one get to hang out with the big boys.
I have seen more 22s damaged from improper cleaning or oil left in the bore.
I have gotten into the habit of punching the bore with a lightly oiled patch after shooting and just wiping the gun off with a lightly oiled rag. When I take one out to go shooting I punch the bore with a dry patch.
I give one a good cleaning every now and then.

Well if some guy at a gun store said it, it must be true.

Hose out the gunk, re-lube and carry on.

Respect your equipment... the only way I would not clean my firearm is if I was headed out within the next few days again, short if this and they get cleaned.

I find that if I don't clean them after every 1 or 2 range trips (few hundred rounds each trip) that they will have problems. The cheap, yet available, ammo is really dirty.

it depends upon the 22 pistol...have to clean the buckmark because it'll starting flinging burnt powder sideways after the face of the bolt and barrel starts collecting crap and stinging your hand.

I don't usually clean my rimfires until they stop functioning correctly. The reason I've heard to not clean them regularly is because it could damage the barrel. The rifling is shallow on most that it could be damaged or worn down by too much cleaning. It could be true, but since I don't use the rimfires for self defense I'm ok with not cleaning them often.
