Picking a .22 pistol - need a little help

I don't have a specific gun to recommend. Personally I've found that a full size rimfire handgun is the easiest to shoot.

You are not looking for a carry gun. Try out as many as you can. If you were close, I have several you could try.

You never know which one is going to be the best until you try it.

What gets often forgotten is that there is a roster exemption for competition/olympic guns and among all the Benellis, Hammerlis and Pardinis is also a much more common S&W 41.

Look at that list for some ideas of what you can get. (I'm assuming that when you say "only on the roster" you only mean that you don't have a special means to get something forbidden.)

Better off with a dedicated complete pistol IMHO. A conversion unit is a
pile of parts where something can get easily lost or misplaced.Ive had
issues with the GSG 1911s. I broke a firing pin on one which I got
replaced within a week and it shot several thousand rds with no issues
the other 922 had a loose rear sight but that was a quick fix and it runs
good on all the bulk Ammo I can find. I can safely get the triggers under
3lbs with no creep and they are very accurate. For the money not really
that bad. These 1911s are full size not some undersized wannabes that
cost quite a bit more. YMMV

Another vote for GSG. A few thousand rounds, nothing broken yet. Eat most everything but I run it until it stop feeding twice....too lazy to clean. But after cleaning and lubing, it is shooting fun again.

Not on the roster. I'm not looking to pay 2x retail or jump through hoops. I really like the SR22 and have shot a few through it.

If I was just getting into .22 lr pistols now, I would go the Glock Advantage Arms .22 kit route.

I've got a AA kit for my G19(had it 5 years, thousands of rounds), and its been trouble free with their recommend ammo. Its worth the $300.

I was really interested in the Browning 1911/22...until I held one. The sights were pitiful. 1911 mil sights are bad enough. Downsize them and they become horrendous. Being downsized, 1911 upgrades don't fit. Seems there could be a market for aftermarket sights, but I didn't find any at the time.

Personally, I love my bare bones Buckmark. Insanely accurate for a "sporting" pistol. I realize that appearance is up to individual taste.

I'd like to add a S&W 41. Pricey, but IMHO no better out of the box target capable, yet classic looking .22 pistol.

Lotta folks happy with their GSG/Sigs. There's some aftermarket parts which are supposed to increase the reliability, but I'm not sure they're needed. Cheap enough if so and other 1911 upgrades fit.
