    Educate me: 10/22 Target Tactical

I see that Golden State Tactical has the model without the bipod on sale for $429.

Who owns one of these? Is this a good deal? I am new to the .22 game and can't get over how good this rifle looks. I would like to use this for shooting up to 100 yards or so. Is the ~$200 premium over the normal 10/22 worth it? Is this rifle cheaper than building up a normal 10/22 myself?

Any information would be much appreciated.

    Thanks!
It was just an old plywood boat, with a '75 Johnson, with electric choke. A young boy, two hands on the wheel, I can't replace the way it made me feel.

    Boy that's a pretty rifle.

It all depends on what your goals are.

For $400 and change, I'd probably go with the CZ 455 bolt action if I wanted a tack-driving .22lr, as they're beautiful guns and the wood stock is just so much nicer than synthetic (IMHO).

If you're only shooting up to 100 yards, and want to stay with a 10/22 I might consider the 10/22 Collector's series, and put the $150-$200 difference toward a halfway decent scope and some ammo and extra magazines. (.22lr ammo is cheap by the box, but you sure seem to go through boxes fast when you've bought some extra magazines.)

It all depends on what you're looking for. A .22 probably isn't going to have the same problem with heat buildup that makes a bull barrel on larger caliber rifles more valuable, and you're still going to need to spend some money on an optic, since it doesn't look like you've got sights on that.

But it's got some nice parts, and it looks cool as hell. If you want a sharp looking semi-auto .22, it's a good choice.

If you'd rather have something closer to heirloom quality, I'd look at a CZ.

If you're just shooting at 100 yards, and would rather get the hang of iron sights and then have some extra $ for scopes/mags/ammo/upgrades, then something closer to a base model 10/22 might be a better option.

(If you're going to want to cram it into a bug out bag, you might also want to consider a 10/22 takedown model.)

Honestly though, it's probably a moot point. 18 months from now, you'll probably have a handful of .22s taking up space in your house, so you might as well get the one that seems like the most fun to you now. (BTDT.)

My friend had a 10/22 Target that had the silver hammer forged barrel with the twist and the walnut color laminate stock.. real pretty 10/22... ran like ****! The chamber was just too tight to cycle anything reliably.

So what is the Tactical Target over a stock 10/22
      Upgraded Stock
      Upgraded Trigger
      Upgraded Barrel

Stock is just a Hogue Overmolded... midway has it for 75... amazon 65... free prime shipping...

By most accounts the Hogue Overmolded is too flexable and makes contact with the barrel if pressure is put on the fore end at all. (bipod, rest)

IMO I like the Boyds Tacticool much better. Now called the Pro Varmint. Its laminated wood with black textured paint
Shop hardwood gunstocks for any make, model, and action with the Boyds Gunstock Configurator. Choose from several wood and finish options.

100's of 10/22 stocks out there. Take your pick.

Trigger supposedly it has "Ruger’s target trigger" which is probably the old upgraded trigger if this is a NOS gun since they have a new BX trigger upgrade available separate now...

Triggers run from reworked units by Brimstone

      To Kidd

      And a 100 brands in-between...

Barrels range from your run of the mill green mountain

To top of the line Kidd, Tacsol, etc

Skillfully crafted for precision, ensuring accuracy with each shot. Delivering excellence one shot at a time...

      And a 100 brands in-between...

You say your in love with the looks of this:

But IMO this is much better (But to each their own)

IMO Save the difference and use it to build it how you want it.. the 10/22 is easier "lego bricks" then even the ar15.. Goodluck on your build if you choose to go that way (and staying in budget )

BTW you should google some 10/22 build photo threads like these for inspiration
i wanna build a 10/22 probably with black/ silver scope, bi-pod and pistol grip please post pics of your rifles. folding stocks or ar styled too
