Years ago when Volquartsen (1990's ?) started offering 10/22 target bull barrels, I put a bunch of them together for my gunshop. Wasn't a lot of different accessories available back then. But now,,,,,holy 10/22's Batman.
What got me started was, I bought one of the Ruger factory 10/22 bull barrel target rifles. Major disappointment! Groups are 3/4" to 1" at 50 yards with top grade 22 ammo, Lapua, Eley, etc. So, I said to myself, "self, you need to build one like the old days."
I decided I would build one for each one of my kids and grandkids. This is the first one. Lots and lots of choices for stocks, barrels, triggers, etc.
This one is the following:
Ruger Receiver
Shilen Barrel
Timney trigger group with quick detach magazine release
Powers bolt with improved firing pin, extractor, etc
Volquartsen cocking handle
Leupold III 6.5x20 A0 scope
20 MOA scope base
Haven't shot it yet, just put it together. Going forward, I'm going to try some of the after-market receivers, different barrels, bolts, handles, stocks, etc. They won't all be scoped. My oldest son is like me, loves aperture sights. Definitely will try some of the carbon fiber light weight barrels.
If anyone here has had exceptional success with any part of the the build, barrels, bolts, etc, I would appreciate knowing what you liked and why.
