    Upgrade path suggestion for 10/22

I have had a stainless 10/22 for about 15-17 years and the only thing i've done to it was to replace the charging handle with a Kidd (suggestions from calguns, it works great). Since the upgrade/fix, i've been considering other upgrades to the gun and want to enter some local rimfire matches. I am not sure how to best spend the money and wanted suggestions. I have a simmons scope with rail and nikon rings already installed so I don't want to upgrade that at this time.
Stock: I wanted to get a new stock that can accomodate a harris bipod (already own it for my AR and could easily swap it onto the 22 for the matches that will have prone shooting) and hopefully improve accuracy. I decided I don't care what it looks like, I just want the most flexible/accurate stock I can find.

For the next upgrades, I'm considering the barrel and trigger (good order?). I can spend about $300-$400 on the upgrades (stock included) and would rather get good high quality parts now (pay once, cry once) and put other upgrades off for the future. My goal for the gun is to be very accurate out to 100yrds (local range has 25, 50, 100, 200 and 300 yards available).

    Thanks for the help!

edit- the other option is to just buy a whole new gun for about a $400-$500 budget. I would want it to be semi-auto, highly accurate and accept the harris bipod (swivel stud)

    Stock: Victor Company Titan http://victorcompanyusa.com/titan-1022.html

Trigger and barrel: Go KIDD for everything.

Moving to a KIDD trigger was a huge upgrade when I was building my 10/22.

Barrel / trigger --- most important. Which first depends on present barrel. If good, go trigger. If average, go barrel. Without a good barrel it won't shoot well. Without a good trigger, you will have problems shooting well. Stocks - I like the Titan also but a Boyds will certainly do. (I have one of those also).

Thanks everyone, I really like the Titan stock. Does that accept the stock barrel? I really love the kidd charging handle so I'm thinking they will be the rest of the rifle. Did you guys get the single or double stage trigger?

Titan will fit bull barrels so a stock regular 10/22 would not be a problem. Support a California company while we still can!

I also have a Boyd Tacticool stock on my CZ 455 and that's a nice stock also, but on the heavy side. No problem mounting Harris on it.

I tried both the single and two stage triggers from KIDD. The two stage with straight trigger shoe was what I kept because it afforded me a bit more control.

I stopped by the store and checked out the cz455 trainer, cz455 ultra lux, a few savage bull barrels (mk2? It was really nice and $430), and the bull barrel ruger that's $500. I really liked the feel of the savage best but I'm guessing the cz455 would be the best accuracy. It was $350 for the trainer, ultra lux was $475 but besides the stock checkering and magazine well area it seemed like the same rifle. Anyone know the other differences (if any?)

Did a lot of research before I bought my barrel for my 10-22. Was the most expensive part of the build.

Went with a Beyer lightweight bull barrel. Very pleased with it's accuracy.

Now your thinking. Dump the 10/22 and upgrade to something better.

10/22 upgrades is a rabbit hole that you will never get to the bottom of. Be sure this is what you want before you embark upon such a journey.

The CZ455 is a great rifle out of the box. And with the option to change barrels it offers you a few different calibers. I purchased the standard rifle with sporter barrel profile initially, then changed to factory bull profile, and bedded it into the Boyd. Now it will shoot on par with my KIDD 10/22, most of the time. Now, I could go full blown and order me a Lilja barrel for it, but I believe I'm at the point of diminishing returns since this factory barrel is shooting so well at less than half the price of the Lilja.

Personally, the KIDD was THE bottom of the "rabbit hole" for me, as well as some guys I know in terms of the 10/22 platform. I can think of nothing more to improve, or change on this, and this is precisely why I went full KIDD for my first and only 10/22, instead of piece-mealing it and leave myself wanting... I'm the type to constantly search for upgrades so this is a first for me. So in my opinion, unlike an AR rifle, there IS a finite end to this 10/22 journey.

Of course, if you've got the means and want even better, go Anschutz.

Thanks everyone, great advice here. I have to weigh my options. I'm leaning towards a bolt action with a scope (I shoot much better with magnification). Just have to decide which gun to go for.

Marlin 795. Add Tech Sights. Done.

factory barrels are good for 3/4" at 50 yards.
The 22 LR cartridge is not very reliable for killing things past 100 yards.
For target paper holes then terminal velocity and power factor is not an issue.

A free floated quality barrel, quality scope and a good trigger will give you about all of the functionality you will get out of a Ruger 10-22

Do not expect more from a 10-22 than it will eventually deliver.
My 10-22 will shoot well with some ammo and not others. It does pretty good with the American Eagle HP but opens up with CCI minimags.

If you think your Simmons scope holds zero very well, then try different ammo first. If your groups are larger than 1 inch at 50 yards or the groupings move around a lot with the same ammo, then suspect your scope. make sure your scope is good before doing anything else. I had a Simmons scope that was not as reliable as I thought. I wasted a lot on ammo and parts before figuring out the problem was my scope.

Ruger 10-22's are reliable guns and offer a lot of aftermarket customizing options. Make your pistol look and feel they way you like. But expecting it to be a 100 yard match gun then it can take a lot of money to get the job done.
My old Marlin tube fed model 60 produces a smaller group at 75 yards with cheap ammo than the factory 20-22.

I refuse to shoot 22 LR ammo that costs more then about $5 a box a 50 rounds.

If you're leaning toward a bolt action with a scope, the CZs are kind of a no-brainer, unless you've got plenty of $ and are going for something really fancy like an Anschutz or olympic rifle.
