Ruger Mark II - 6.78" SS Model

I acquired a Ruger Mark II 6.78" SS and wonder if it KMK678 or KMK678G. The receiver isn't drill and tap. Does anyone know how to tell which model it is?

No but I can tell you it appears to be missing the front sight.

I have no need for front sight. This pistol is auto aim, main reason I got it

Actually, the front sight is on the compensator that isn't attach.

So it is G model? I was trying to read old threads and just want to be sure. It seems that the KMK678 look exactly the same.

I think the "G-Man" was in reference to the other other members user name, not your question of is it a G lol.

What does yours say on the other side towards the rear? If its a G it will say "Government Target Model" like this:

They look the same besides the mark because well pretty much they are but the G are assembled with more care (and some rumored upgrades) and tested for a minimum group size.

No shame in it being a non G, all 678 are inherently good shooters IMO. I love my MKI 678 Heavy Taper. I need to ask my Father in law again if his Stainless 678 Bull is a Government, I think it is.. hope to inherent it one day either way lol.

                  What is auto aim?
Sorry, I'm not trying to be a smart *zz!
I've seen them (MKII) tapped with a rail before for a red dot, but I
don't see it on yours. Are you just using the rear sight?
I have an older MKII with a bull barrel I got back in the 70's
that has a adjustable rear sight
                  Thanks

Think Auto aim is the op's sarcastic video game reference in response to gman.

Im sure the OP will be getting a fiber optic fs soon

If you have one of the Volquartsen comps track down a dremel bit like this one.

It fits right inside the comp and will buzz all of the lead and other garbage buildup right out. Try not to bugger up the o-ring.

It was late and I didn't notice the G-Man name miss that completely.

Will probably do at some point but I am saving cash for the gun and ammo until the end of the year.

My MKII isn't drill and tap And as Chao mention, I was just pulling your legs. I can barely shoot adequately with front and rear sight. Couldn't hit the side of a barn without the front sight, I am sure.

I got it with Wichita compensator. The crown has a crud of gun power due to it, I think. I am not sure if I would want to keep using it. The front sight is on the compensator so I will probably have to get a new sight before it is shootable again.

As I understand it its rare to find G models tapped from the factory but they are out there.

IMO I would put it back to factory front sight if the comp install didn't do permanent damage.

wasn't looking for rarity. Just want the correct model info for accurate booking.

Couldn't tell if any damage is done yet but it doesn't seem so
