1022 bull barrels- how to install

Hello, I have 1990's wood stock standard barrel. I just got 2 bull bRrels in a trade yesterday. If I wanted to switch out to use one, do I need a different stock ? One is 18.5" and the other is 20", both are stainless , ruger is blue . Thanks in advance.
Lead will be worth more than silver and gold when they are giving it away free !

That's why there are 2 stock sizes...one for oem barrels, the second for 0.920" barrels. Either are available through Ruger or the internet. The .22 section in the equipment exchange on ar15.com usually has a few for sale.

You could also use a piece of pvc pipe or similar as a round wrap sand paper and go to work shouldn't take long at all. All depends on your needs. Eabco.net has some great stocks and they will also ship thumbhole stocks to california. They are a great company to do business with.

rimfirecentral.com is an excellent source for this kind of info. There is so much info on 10/22 mods -- barrels, actions, stocks, you name it.

This YouTube by Brownells shows exactly what you're looking to do. Swapping a standard barrel for a bull barrel on a 1022. Easy and No special tools needed but Yes you need a new stock but the good news the bull barrel stocks are free float for added accuracy.

Probably the easiest barrel to change

^^^^ I like that answer! Sounds like me. Why mess with the one you like if you can just use it as an excuse to get another one!

How about a 77/22 or 77-17 bolt action from Ruger? Are barrel changes done the same on them?

They're like FAL's...you definitely need another, no matter how many you have.

No. Rimefire Central or Brownells for info.

Get a new stock for your existing 1022. Then build another one with the extra barrel. Receivers are available on GB. You'll have a great time doing it.
