Marlin 795 LTR, still available?

So I went to Dick's to order a basic 795, and they quoted me a price of $269! Fortunately, I found their site showed it for $159, and they gave it to me for that price. When I got home and looked at the order form more closely, I saw it said 795 LTR (Liberty Training Rifle, though just LTR was on the order). I googled the UPC, and it came up with the LTRs but not on Marlin's site. I guess that would explain the $269 price.

So does anyone know if Marlin is still making these, or is this NOS from one of Dick's warehouses? I realize the difference is only upgraded sights and a sling, but hey, I'll take it.

The sling and Tech Sights cost about $100, so you got those for free. It also has a training certificate to an Appleseed, although I heard they have expired, Appleseed is still honoring them. Oh to your first question, I think they run them in batches, there are some available on Davidson's site now.

Thanks. I'm not really holding my breath that it'll be an LTR, but that would be a nice bonus since it is for Appleseed. I've tried a couple times with my bolt action, but that's just making it too hard on myself.

The LTR seem to come and go. A few years back, I tried to find it all over the internet and came up empty handed for a few months before I gave up. Then back in May, I accidentally found one on my FFL's website while looking for a basic 795 for a buddy. I quickly ordered it as he only wanted the basic model. It arrived in 5 days. Now I can't find it anymore. The only difference from a basic 795 with Tech Sights added is the lack of basic rear sight on the barrel and the inscribed "Appleseed LTR" (of course the sling, extra magazine and brochures.) I'm keeping this one for the grandkids.
