How to move a Marin sight for windage

I actually need this for a camp 9 but the sights look the same on my 795 and xt22 so thought i'd ask here. Marlin owner's site is messed up and i can't sign on . My camp 9 fires far too much to the right. the owner's manual says to " tap the base to the right" . does that mean tap the end closest to your eye or the end closer to the barrel ? do i have to loosen something first ? somebody must have done this. Put tech sights on the 795 but i don't have this option on the camp 9

Move rear sight in direction you want impact to move. Move front sight opposite of the direction you want to move the point of impact. If they're both adjustable just pick one and run with it. If you run out of adjustment then move to the other sight.

            Thanks all !

Then the sights do not pivot so it makes no difference where one pushes ? They move left or right as a unit ? I'll need to see if there is a nut or bolt to loosen but the manual makes no mention of one

You need to push against the dovetail portion. Depending on the sight if you try to punch against the blade you can say goodbye to the sight. Lock the barrel/action up in a vise before you drift anything. But correct, the rear sight doesn't pivot, it can only slide left or right through the dovetail slot.

                thanks for pics

so in picture #2 of the Marlin it looks to me like the the dovetail is aligned front to back so that it does not move side to side. It must however. Does one just tap it on the left side at the dovetail to move the impact to the left and to the right to move it to the right ? I take it the dovetail is the mounting base and the sight moves on its own rail above this ? Sorry for silly questions but I am new to shooting having had a mid life crisis

No... the sights have a block machined in that look like the base of a triangle (hence term dovetail). This wedge is press fit into a corresponding cut out in the barrel or receiver. No rails or anything, it can only move left or right across this cut. So if you want to move the impact to the right, you tap the left side of the sight to push it to the right. The opposite would be true to move impact left. The only thing to look for is that some sights have a set screw on top to hold it in place after adjusting, though most .22 rifles won't have them.

You'll have to use a small hammer and a brass drift/punch. In the example picture John_Myers posted, you would place the brass drift/punch on the "R" on the side of that sight, and tap till the sight moves. Little taping with hammer and drift, shoot, check group, repeat as necessary.

As someone else mentioned, it is handy to put the rifle in a vice to do this.

See this picture. Tap sight to right to move impact to right, tap left to move impact to left.

tap on the right side to move the sight to the left and the impact to the left and vice versa ?

Just whack gently. A brass drift and small ball peen hammer work well. Emphasis on small.

You may want to tape the top of the barrel and the sight, and then put a pencil mark on both so you have a reference to see how far you are moving the sight. You should not have to move it much...
