Is this 10/22 charging handle broken?

Are you sure you didn't do something to it while learning how to take it apart and put it back together?

I don't think I broke it when taking it apart as it came apart without any effort at all. It has always been hard to pull back the charging handle and the gun has sat unused for at least 5 years with the bolt locked open. I think the replacement charging handle and rod should be here soon and fix it!

You have to pull it back to re assemble the gun. I had always had problems with it sticking and not wanting to move well. I took the gun down to clean it today and I can't get it back to out the bolt back

Yep. I know exactly what you mean. In my early days, I thought I broke it as it came apart. Then I realized Ruger just bent the end of the rod slightly to keep it together. After researching a bit, I bought a Kidd assembly. When I received it, the difference is workmanship and quality was night and day. In those days I didn't know what to do with the different springs.

Later when I started using standard velocity rounds, even though they worked with the "standard" hv spring, I changed springs as I had decided to use this one gun for sv rounds only. Worked first time, every time.

I got the handle in and the guide rod looks great, much nicer than the stock version! I picked the handle with the Vitron and don't like the look but that is my fault for not spending more time picking it out (I mistakenly thought it was all metal and not a rubbery material) but I'm sure it will function great. Time to shop for a stock to dress up this old rifle and go shooting

I have the viton handle on all my 10/22's. No, it's not the best looking, but I didn't want anything flashy to take the eye off my nice wood grain stocks.

Nice smooth rod/spring/handle now isn't it?? The factory is kwrap compared to it.

PS: It will stay that way too.

Seems great! Should I oil the guide rod?

Yes, lightly oil the rod and spring, making sure it gets into the handle area, too.

Here's a couple of pics of Calamity's model Ruger 11165 before it was upgraded with a Bushnell Elite scope and a Kidd Single Stage trigger with rod, spring, and charging handle. I'll have to take some recent pics but they are packed for travel now. The pics I posted in the rimfire gallery are no longer there.

Well it's back together! The charging handle and rod feel and look great. Got a scope on for the first time and I'm taking it out tomorrow!

After playing with my new Daniel defense AR, upgrading the guide rod/handle, I think I have the upgrade bug for this gun. I was eyeballing the Kidd trigger, barrel and release system already, what a disease to have

From the pic above, it appears you already have a custom trigger. You don't like it??

Once you get started with "rebuilding" a firearm, there is no end to it.

It's a stock trigger unless it was a special edition! I bought it brand new about 15-17 years ago as my first gun
