Looking for a good rimfire/centerfire bolt action set

It may be time for me to get a 22lr bolt gun.

I'd like to get one that shares characteristics with a centerfire counterpart, in case I ever get a 308 bolt gun.

The pair that seem to have the most in common are the Ruger American Rimfire/Centerfire. The bolt throws are similar, as are the triggers, safeties and general ergos. They are not heirloom firearms, but are apparently out-of-the-box accurate.

I haven't held either, but I would guess the Ruger 77/22 and Hawkeye are very similar. Both are more expensive, but are well-made and have good aftermarket support.

Are there any other rimfire/centerfire pairings? I suppose Savage might be another one.

What about CZ? Does the 452 or 455 share any characteristics with their centerfire counterparts?

other then a 77/22 you are not going to get a perfect counterpart because the bolt throw you would get a centerfire rifle but you can get close

Yeah, the throw is obviously going to be longer and heavier with 308. However, I was surprised how much the American and American rimfire were similar to one another.

Think the 77/22 and Hawkeye would be close?

the 77/22 has a full throw

You can always get a used Remington 40X? single shot .22 but they are pricey
Nice thing is they use a Remington 700 action so you can stock it in the exact stock you have for centerfire

Im going with an RPR so to me it doesn't make much of a difference anymore

I love the ruger American series. modern bolt, great adjustable trigger, a little light for those heavier calibers and still very affordable

22lr also accepts the 10/22 mags

I went to my lgs recently to buy a RAR, but left with a cz455 instead. The cz was so much nicer, I would have never been happy with the ruger after handling the cz. I also have a perfect rifle to hand down to my 8 month old son some day.

If your still looking for a bolt action .22 let me know. I have Ruger American that's pretty much brand new no rounds through it. I can let it go for about $230

One thing you should keep in mind is that many higher end 22lr bolt rifles need good ammo to shoot tight groups. I have a CZ-455 in a Manners stock that I love. It shoots sub-MOA at 50 yards, but loves Lapua Midas+ ammo. In 2017 when we will no longer be able to buy ammo from the Internet, I won't be able to find any Midas+ locally. And if I did, it would be crazy expensive.

So, you may want to consider getting a bolt action .223 as a trainer. At least you will be able to buy ammo locally or better yet reload. The best Internet pricing on Midas+ is a little less than what I can re-load high precision .223.

I have a CZ 452 Ultra Lux in 22lr and a CZ 550 American in .308, both with set triggers and Mauser actions. Fit and finish is very nice
