DIY Extended Charging Handle Ruger 10/22

Picked up a Ruger 10/22 carbine in standard plain Jane form (wooden stock and 18.5" barrel). It's a fun little rifle and regret not buying one earlier when I started shooting at 18 years old. I mounted a BSA Sweet 22 scope and did the auto bolt release mod but the charging handle can be better for my liking.

Quick search online and I saw that some guys have epoxied an empty .40 case like this:

Curious if others have done a similar mod and how well has it held up?

Got the same gun. I don't see the need.

^I added the scope and the windage knob gets in the way. It's a not deal breaker, just wanted something so I can get a better purchase to pull the CH.

If good prep. and a good epoxy was used, it should last a long time unless dropped just at the wrong angle.

I'd still pay for the longer stock part though.

I chopped a 38 special casing, and press fit it into a brass lamp coupling from Home Depot. I didn't want it to stick out too much, so it's just slightly longer than stock. JB Weld to secure it:

^^^ What he said. Every time the gun fires the charging handle is flying back and forth. The bigger it is, the greater chance of catching on something.
Small and smooth is good.

It's looks interesting, I would worry about it getting knocked lose....I purchased the extended handle from Kidd.

Ya, that's it. As far as longevity, I've shot about 15k+ rounds with it. I roughed up the stock piece just to give the JB Weld a little more to hold onto.
