It shoots better than I do.

I love the advice "It shoots better than I do." Would you buy a rifle/barrel, action, etc., if that is all the stranger told you?

I have posted those words but really, if you have been to a public range, you know that "it shoots better than I do" runs from really, really lousy to excellent - and everything in between. Seeing it in answers to some questions of interest to me, I always laugh now.

How well do you shoot? Can't hit a barn? 3 out of five in the 8 inch black at 100 yards is a great day? Regular .018 five shot groups at 50 yards? 2500 on a standard 25 bull 50 yard target. 25 on a standard 25 bull 50 yard target?

    Honestly, it ain't helpful.

All of my guns shoot better that I do, and I'm a pretty good shot.

No one can consistently beat the mechanical accuracy of a firearm. Therefore all guns shoot better than anyone does

Edit... Unless there is something wrong with your gun

I know of no gun which has the ability to shoot without me. So no; No gun shoots better than me because it can't shoot. I shoot.

The anti's would disagree. They are certain that guns are evil, killing machines. Especially the black ones.

            ^^ untrue.

But the least accurate parts of any shooting system are usually (a) the shooter, and (b) the ammunition, in that order.

I have two firearms I can outshoot -- my M1 Carbine (3 MOA with good ammo) and my AR-15 (reliability build w/ 16" barrel) (2 MOA with good ammo). Behind the trigger of something more precise I can hold 1.5 MOA from unsupported prone, and sub-MOA from bags, and I'm not particularly amazing. The rest of my rifles can meet or exceed this standard, including a very inexpensive Marlin .22, with judicious ammunition choices. But those can't.

I don't put much stock in accuracy claims from sellers unless they are in some way calibrated. Having said that it is very rare to find a rifle that won't hold 2 MOA, a few problematic types excepted.
