I now own my first 10/22, and third rimfire gun. I'll be interested to see how your son does with his, and how your improvements stack up.

Nice, I heard they had them at $199. I paid $209 at Wild Sports.

I almost left the unedited version on my photobucket but than realized that the folks here at Calguns get all sleuthy and would have outed me. Just more cool parts is all.

is it still reliable at all?
The rifle itself is 20 plus years old. I personally put at least 20,000 rounds through it over the years. My son has put at least 5000 rounds through it. I have had a couple of minor issues. A few years ago the ejector flew off the bolt. I called up Armscor and they mailed me out the three or four things I needed free of charge. It is actually a pretty sweet little shooter and is very accurate. I still have four factory 15 round magazines. I had problems with a couple of them feeding and again called up armscor and they took care of me.

It is currently down though because during my last cleaning a small bearing that keeps the safety locked in position went missing. So while the rifle will shoot perfectly it won't dependably stay in the safe position when selected. Again, Armscor is taking care of me and sending out the part free of charge. I'm just hoping it arrives before the May Appleseed event we are signed up for. I was hoping to shoot it at the event but will just switch it up to my Sig 516 if the part doesn't arrive in time.

I love that fugly rifle and will keep it forever.

My son had mentioned that he wanted to get a different rifle mainly because it's easier and cheaper to get magazines for a newer rifle. We had been limited to four with the other .22 and replacements ran $45.00 a piece. Also he could upgrade it and kind of build it to his liking. I told my son when I was his age I had a 10/22 as well. I had all kinds of dreams as to what I wanted to do to it but I never had the funds. I figured I would let him just go nuts right out the gate and get the bulk of what he wanted now. He wants to keep the factory wood stock and set plans on future mods other than a desire to change out the charging handle with something different. He has not nailed down which one yet.

Awesome project. I hope you let him turn the screwdrivers, too! Have fun. I see an AR rifleman project next in the future, too!

Thanks for the reply about the armscor m1600. I'm glad you like it I remember a long time ago friend got one and we (our shooting group was evenly divided between the Ruger and Marlins) all just judged a book by its "fugly" cover.
