ruger sr22 takedown lever problem..advice?

I recently purchased a ruger r22 , on cal guns.
the previous owner replaced the take down lever with the twin tech lever and the guide rod as well. I took it to the range and after a few shots the slide was locked back up and off. I looked and the take down was open. Figured first time, my fault I reassembled locked lever and same thing happened. Just to make sure I hadn't done something stupid 2x I tried again .. same issue.
the slide definitely isn't happy about sliding back and off like that either.
was using cci min mags as the ammo. Anyone have any ideas? Can I send to ruger or should I find a local guy to check it. Wasn't sure if ruger accepts it the takedown was replaced by owner

Can't hurt to call Ruger.

Did you get the original take down lever and guide rod from the guy you bought the gun from.
If you have them, install them back on the gun and see if this fixes the problem.
If you don't have them, ask the seller if he still has them and why he changed them out.
As for Ruger they probably will question altering the gun with aftermarket parts.

He doesn't have them. He replaced the lever bc there were lots of concerns
For the ruger lever. The reviews said this lever was better
The only thing that could touch the lever would be the rod/spring
I ordered another guide rod to see if that helps
When I called ruger they said send it in but was gonna be at least 150 after shipping and their lever installed. Was hoping could find less expensive solution if possible. Thanks

A lot of times when Ruger tells you they will charge you, they end up comping you. No guarantees, of course, and in this case by telling you they will charge you it sounds like they are signalling their displeasure with aftermarket parts in this context.

I have two SR22s with the original takedown levers. No issues. I also have not messed with the guide rod. The military went to plastic guide rods in the Beretta M9 because they are better than metal.

Experienced a similar situation.

I purchased a Twin Tech Tactical takedown lever as a preemptive. Installed it and saved the original Ruger.

A few hundred rounds later, the takedown lever would open during use. No initial damage at a glance. Upon closer inspection during cleaning, the takedown lever had a chip in the corner of the rounded part where the slide impacts it.

I ordered 2 more takedown levers from Twin Tech and told them about the damage. They were not responsive. Installed the new part, no more issues to date.

For all SR22 owners and prospective owners out there.

The takedown lever is a failure point of the gun. It will break sooner or later.

The options for repair:

A. Send it to Ruger. They will fix it for free.

B. Purchase the Twin Tech part and fix it yourself. Better yet, buy 3 and be prepared the next time it happens.

I purchased the TTT part because as far as I know, Ruger will not sell the takedown lever to consumers. I also did not want to deal with shipping and waiting 2-4 weeks if I did have to send it in.

Is it possible the twin tech lever is slightly thicker,in the area that the guide rod sits over? It looks like it wouldn't take much for the compressed spring to bump the lever if was thicker. There is not
Much of a gap..I am reluctant ordering another twin tech lever. I couldn't find a way to order the ruger made levers

Can't blame Ruger for aftermarket modifications. You may have a voided warranty too.
