    10/22 BUFFER PIN MISSING?

I just got my first 10/22. It's an older "Liberty" marked carbine.
It was absolutely filthy so I took it apart to clean it.
I noticed holes in the back of the receiver under the wood and seems where the bolt buffer would go. I looked at a blowup picture and it doesn't seem to show anything there.

Do I have something missing or are the recoil buffers an aftermarket item?
    Thanks!

Don't shoot it in that condition.

The buffer is just a big fat pin that restricts the rearward movement of the bolt.

You can get a new OEM one from Ruger, Midway, or Brownells.

There are also aftermarket ones made of poly something.

Yes, the buffer pin is missing. The stock pin is metal, but I put the plastic ones in all my 10/22's. Doesn't beat up the bolt as bad & is a little softer cycling.

Make your own, I made one for my son's 10/22. Still holding up after 10,000+ rounds. Your local home depot should carry it. UPC # 030699163885

I made one out of a fake rose stem cut to size (thick hard-ish plastic with a metal wire inside). Works great so far and I had enough stem for a couple extra should it get too flexy

Lots of options out there. Here is one from Kidd Innovative Design. If it wears out they will replace it for free.

Jagguy, I have a brand new one for the Ruger 10/22 that you can have for free.

I recently purchased two of them one for each and didn't realize that I upgraded one of them many moons ago.
It's the steel pin covered with I think Nytel.

You definitely don't want to work that puppy without it.

I acquired a used 10/22. Shot fine. Opened it up one day to find no buffer. Put an aftermarket rubber type one in. Seems to shoot the same.

                      Thanks for the offer!
I ordered one up a couple days ago so I should have it soon.
Question, how tightly does the OEM pin fit in the receiver? Is it a pressed fit?

Its not very tight at all.

Do that to all my 10 22s. Works fine.
