I know the Model 41 is exempted, but does that apply to all the different models and configurations? (e.g. 5", 7", PC, compensated, etc.)

CA DOJ BOF list of Exempt Olympic Pistols
If the exact make/model is not on that list, then it is not exempt as an Olympic pistol.sigpic

Yes, but there are several variants of the Model 41. My question is if all of them are exempt, since the list doesn't seem to differentiate between them.CA DOJ BOF list of Exempt Olympic Pistols

What is exempt needs to match what is exactly listed.
There are only two variants of the S&W Model 41 listed:
(make) SMITH & WESSON (model) M-41 (caliber) .22LR
(make) SMITH & WESSON (model) M-41 RAPID FIRE (caliber) .22Short
Since the listings do not specify barrel length, as long as the make/model/caliber matches, then it can be any barrel length.Last edited by Quiet; 02-19-2016, 4:27 AM.sigpic

OP, if you're thinking about getting one from OoS (GB, Armslist, etc) make sure your receiving FFL is ok with it. Some have taken the position that unless the pistol is marked EXACTLY as shown in the CA Olympic list, it's not exempt.
EX: The Model 41 is listed as "M-41", but the pistol is marked "Model 41". One of my go-to FFL's said he wouldn't accept it as exempt...even though S&W never made a pistol marked "M-41"...he says that the pistol needs to be marked "M-41" (or be C&R) to be exempt.
I had a similar issue with the Model 41-1 in .22 Short. It's listed as "M-41 Rapid Fire" (which is what it's AKA) but the pistol is marked "Model 41-1". So it's a no-go for some FFL's.
Just something to keep in mind. YMMV, etc...You will never, in your life, have a chance like this again.
If I were you, I would not pass this up. I would not let this go by...this is rare.
Come on...what harm??

It's a shame how some FFL's are absolutely obvioulous to what they can/cannot do.
When you look for a local FFL, do your research. Look for one who is not only there to make money but is also willing to help you get what you want.
Some FFL's won't spend 5 minutes doing a little research to help you. God forbid they are wrong. Tough pill for them to swallow."The democracy will cease to exist when you take away from those who are willing to work and give to those who would not."

I hear you...I just scored a sweet 52-2 myself. I just didn't want the OP to be unpleasantly surprised if his main FFL shuts him down
