    Help: Cleaning a .22

Today was my first thing trying to clean my Walther MP5 .22. I tried putting a 7/8" patch through the barrel with a .22 plastic jag and i couldnt get it to even go inside the barrel even after timing a good amount off of it. Should I ditch the jag and use a slotted patch holder?

    Yeah, or thinner patch.

Just don't force anything down the barrel.

That is a big patch for a 22. I use about 1/4 that size.

22 patches are more like 1/2" square if you want to use a jag

I tried a .22 boresnake and it felt like the boresnake was going to break

Should I try a .17 boresnake or is that pointless?

Use common sense like when the boresnake felt like it was going to break, . . . stop. Cut an old t-shirt or your wife's favorite cotton panties, (thin material) and use the plastic loop. Gently get it cleaned out. Try different size patches.

Yeah, .22 patches are small, like 1/4 inches of thin material, even with the loop. You can increase the size of the patches once you get a good feel for it.

Your bore doesn't have to be perfectly clean. Just get most of the powder residue out, run some patches down it until they come out clean, then some oily patches down it. Wipe her down, store it.

Yeah, It felt too tight as I was trying to make a pass with it so I stop and reversed it out of there.

Ill try to use a smaller patch. So the .22 brass brush would be okay to use as well or use ditch it and use patches only?

I use a brush, then patches.
                  Boresnake for light usage.
My round patches are roughly 1/2" in diameter.

I like using the patchworm kit felt buttons.

I usually just use a boresnake for .22s. Does the job as long as you run it through the barrel after every session.
